Midterm status of villages

Thanks for the update. The details for the process are for you as well as anyone that reads this in public. If you have submitted all the info for a village, waiting make sense, but this early in the process, if no followup after 2 week, it might be a good idea to ask the Village Leads if they are waiting for anything from you. For Villages which submit application dater closer to DEF CON 30, less than 2 weeks is probably better. I wouldn't ask more than once a week, though, as that might cause problems. I have no visibility into the process used, I only get notice when work on forums is required. Good luck!

Thanks again number6, especially for the cautionary reminder of village process. Yes, we're on board with that already, and we were one of the very first applications a couple months ago. We're waiting just as I think the village management wants, and there's no problem or changes with our application.

I would take "getting started early" to include everything necessary to inform the department that oversees villages of your desire to return, and what you will need early. Keeping quiet and waiting for someone to contact you does not seem like what getting an early start might be. I know some villages have been approved for DC30, as you can see forums have been created. I just checked, and I do not see any new tasks for forum admins to create new forums for Villages, Contests, Events, etc. for DEF CON 30. As of "now" forum admins are caught up. If you have already provided your applications for spaces and resources for a village at DEF CON 30, you could check to make sure it has been received, but if you have not turned in any request, doing that early is better than waiting.

Thanks for the explanation. There was chatter from the folks you name to get started early on DC30, so that's what we're trying to do.

We'll keep quiet for now and wait to post until it seems it's okay to do that.

Forums for villages are created based on directions from people in charge of granting space to villages. Forum Admins do not act independent of the people in the Villages department that approve resource allocation. If you are looking to run a village for DC30, contact the DC Village department leads about space being allocated for the village you want to host. The Village Department leads provide forum admins with information on which forums to create for Villages.
