These are the DEF CON Forums. They exist for discussion, planning, questions and answers, for all things related to DEF CON. Off-topic conversation is a violation of the rule above, against posts lacking value. Off topic posts may be removed or censored (for legal reasons)
If more than a certain percentage of your posts are off-topic, you are at risk for being banned.

Religion is off-topic. Political topics are mostly off-topic.

The original policy question, was on-topic.

I'm closing thread: content has moved to off-topic political discussion. Please avoid politics and religion on the DEF CON forums as they are off-topic.
If a new policy question thread is started, please avoid political content.

Heya DT and all DEF CON folks,

First of all, it's kinda cool that at least there was a reaction to the original post. In this forum thread, this is the most viewed topic on the first page in two days, so it looks like an important case for the community has been raised here. Kinda funny that on Twitter everyone boldly expresses their thoughts about what's happening, and in this topic there wasn't a single answer.

Anyways, I have an additional questions:

Very strange to hear this when during the Security Fest conference (Sweden) Jayson S. himself jumped on the stage in a T-shirt with a clearly political print depicting a very stupid meme (this isn't a personal insult - just saying):

Given that we are talking about the DEF CON ambassador, this situation has become completely confusing.

Now the question has been asked very specific, even DEF CON groups are indicated, which caused, let's say, a lot of questions. What are your next steps towards these groups? A specific, and very serious, reason was also given for why this situation became a problem and why it was made public due to several months of silence and the lack of an understandable reaction from your side.

    Also these questions remain unanswered:

I hope you answer these questions directly and clearly.

I appreciate you bringing this to our attention. It gives us an opportunity to publicly clarify our policy.

Group members are free to follow their political conscience where it leads them, but may not do so using DEF CON Groups iconography or implied participation.

DEF CON Groups exist to help hackers connect to their local community, work on team projects and share knowledge about interesting off-label uses for technology. All groups agree to stay within the law, to abide by our Code of Conduct, and to keep DCG events non-commercial and inclusive.

The onus for keeping a group true to these precepts is on the group’s declared leadership. Groups whose activities stray too far from these principles risk various sanctions from DCG. These can include forcing new leadership, or in extreme cases, the dissolution of the group entirely.

We’re adding this to the official DCG FAQ [link]. We encourage group members to contact us for guidance about the appropriate use of the DCG platform. We invite concerned members of the community to keep us apprised of group actions that fall afoul of these rules so that we can respond appropriately.

    Thank you,
    DT

  • A post about what is happening in Russia, Ukraine, and how to solve it.

    Hi all!

This is a post with a question that I wanted to ask in March 2022, I asked it personally to Jayson Street, but unfortunately there were no changes, and I would like to receive an answer publicly from the DEFCON community.

We all know what is happening in Ukraine now, and the actions of groups that are under the jurisdiction of DEFCON give an understanding that the groups have become a terrorist entity, taking their DEFCON groups as a basis, for example: https://t.me/DC8044_Info

We all understand what is happening on both sides, but when the logo and the DEFCON movement as a whole are used in this, it is worth taking into account the fact that DEFCON groups in Russia are recognized as extremist at one moment, and it will be impossible to decide in the opposite direction.

Guys, I take into account everything that is happening in the world, our group existed from 2015 to 2022, we held absolutely non-commercial events, gathered programming schools for children, but in February everything came to the point that we had to close all our events, including 2600 in Moscow, which has been held since 2016 with reference to a wonderful nightclub.

Now I want to ask a question on the forum:

What to do next? What is the position of the official DEFCON in relation to Russia? What about the fact that I can become a terrorist in my own country thanks to you?)

We are waiting for both negative and positive answers, I would like to read everything that you write here, since there is little information and actions in personal dialogues.
Working...
