Is anyone here actually worth their salt? Does anyone actually know anything at all about hacking? I don't need (or want) help, I am just wondering exactly how legit any of you are

Just start hanging out in some of the "chill out" areas and strike up some conversations.

The first year I came they also had a "n00b" Reception, but I don't know if that will happen this year.

    NEWB HERE

    Hey all!

I'm finally coming to my first DEFCON (DC) ever, and it just so happens to be on the 30th anniversary (as I'm sure all of you already know); with that being said, that means I am a little nervous as to where to start. I've scoured through the forums here, as well as looking up different things on reddit and what not all, and I was wondering if anyone had a nice umbrella idea of what I should go about planning?

I've already looked up some of the talks I'd like to see, but I've also realized that accounts for such a SMALL amount of things to do at DC. With that being said, is there possibly a group that'll let me hangout with them while I'm there? Is there a chance that I'll just be able to fall into a group of people after I get there?

I'm just overwhelmed with excitement and nervousness, so I'm just looking for a little bit of direction from the seasoned-vets here.

    Thanks in advance,
    Bilbo
