I picked up three of them from some deal last year...
I remember doing the same. Think that was Overstock.com.

Anyways, I thought about picking up the PC11 card since I bought the new Motorloa SBG-1000. For anyone stuck on cable, this is a kick ass modem.

    Motorola SBG-1000

With the modem in my basement, I get an average of 97% power on the second floor, solid green 11MB. On my old Linksys and SMC APs, I'd be lucky to get a 4MB connection at that distance.

The modem also has "telephone jack networking", DOCSIS 1.0, 5 port 10/100 router, and a firewall that's actually freakin' configurable!

Just though I'd give a recom for anyone stuck on cable like me.

Yeah something to add to the rebadge list.. but I'd like to hear someone get one and be happy :D ... sometimes it gets too trixty with which fm and which works and which doesn't with what software... a real mess... I am willing to pay a few extra bux for the real deal.. though I can say the Dell TrueMobile 1150 was a good buy (I picked up three of them from some deal last year... works just as nice as the ORiNOCO Gold) ... keep us updated if anyone gets this moto...

... or you could work your way into this century and just purchase one online, elsewhere, for much cheaper

not understanding why people really really want to buy their stuff from the local corner store.. (with the exception of the ability to pick one up immediately, at will, without sleeping on an overnight shipment)

  • Best Buy Selling Orinoco - Lucent - Cards .......... sorta.

One of the common things I hear from new / would be - wardrivers is that they can't find a card with a external antenna jack.

I thought it would never happen, but best buy appears to be stocking Orinoco cards rebranded as motorola cards.

    http://www.bestbuy.com/detail.asp?e=...=540&scat=1572

These motorola cards are actually produced by agere aka avaya aka orinoco aka lucent and based on the ever popular to wardrivers "hermes" chipset.

Although they are only selling them online..... so far. I'd be willing to bet you could have your local best buy store get them for you.

I haven't actually seen one to make sure they didn't phase out the antenna in this model, but if it's anything like the dell truemobile, or sony vaio Orinoco cards I assume it will still be on there.

I downloaded the driver, and looked at the .inf and readme
it's the same driver you use for the Orinoco cards.

If anyone actually gets their hands on one, I'd like verification that they have the antenna jack. The Motorola branded cards are so new that I can't find any documentation of this online anywhere.
Working...
