Whats the best programing language to start with

what is it that you wish to program? most programming languages work best for certain things.

I find c and c++ most useful in everyday usage :)

If you plan on programming for both linux and windows try learning STL first then learn MFC :)

depends on what you want to do,

Java is a good OO language to learn just in general and for apps

C/C++ is great if you want to do more low level stuff and get intimate with the hardware

then you probably won't get into "Demon Seed," where a Fortran compiler gets the freak on with the programmer's wife.
