What kind of role do you think the EU plays in making sure that big tech is less-exploitative to us?

Especially after their rules such as requiring Apple to begin allowing non-appstore apps on IOS phones (I use Android, so it doesn't effect me, but it's interesting nonetheless). Do you think that the EU is playing a major role in regulating the big boys who try to exploit us and our data as much as they possibly can? Or are the EU not really putting much of an effect as most people would think?

I'm a European, so Europeans and non-Europeans, I would like to know your perspectives on this!
