How incredible it is to think about this case. A boy of just 15 has managed such feats that from a distance seem almost impossible. Taking down these companies required strategy on Michael's part and the malware he used is widely known among hackers: DDO attacks. To do this, MafiaBoy launched the Rivolta project, which means ‘rebellion’ in Italian. The first target was Yahoo!, the world's leading search engine and a multi-million dollar web company. Rivolta was a denial-of-service attack in which servers were overloaded with requests to the point where normal traffic could not be processed and they stopped responding to commands. The following week, MafiaBoy took down eBay, CNN and Amazon. Today Michael Calce runs a company called Optimal Secure that tries to find weak points in company networks and helps businesses understand just how vulnerable they are.
Quite an upgrade, isn't it?
If anyone wants to discuss this topic, including more information about the details of the attack, I'm all ears.
