I'm hoping that someone here can do a *huge* favor or knows someone that would be intereseted in doing a *huge* favor. I know many of you are professionals and have many obligations and are already very busy if not down right overworked.
There is an educational facility in my area of Fresno, CA called the Sierra Endangered Cat Haven. Please see www.cathaven.com The person in charge of it is involved with biologists in many field studies on cats in several different countries.
What he is looking for is essentially facial-recognition software. I know that for the most part facial-recognition software has largely proven to be a failure. It is my understanding, however inadequate, that some success has been had in Las Vegas and in England.
Cats have distinct patterns of stripes or spots that are like fingerprints. The people doing field studies in South America, Africa, China, and Russia are looking at the possibility that facial-recognition software might enable them to indentify specific cats and track them photographically instead of sedating the cats and putting radio collars on them, which the field biologists consider too intrusive.
I know this totally bizarre and a complete shot in the dark but I thoght it a shot worth taking.
Some of you are aware that I am only a hobbiest with computer security and I know nothing of coding something for this application. If no help is possible I will try to learn on my own to see what I can do.
Thanks for your time in reading this. If any of you have any idea's or suggestions please contact me by private message or contact the Cat Haven directly.
