Who is this guy? Would you go along with it? Will copyleft or thinkgeek start capitalizing on it?

that XHTML looks like universal html, nothing special to call it XHTML (unique x tags)

That would be Eric S. Raymond, one of open source's greatest proponents and - whether you like him or not - one of the more key people in the events that have led up to today's free software movement.

As for going along with it... Probably not, but I don't tend to go slapping symbols all over my stuff. Also bear in mind that the context he's using the word 'hacker' in is somewhat different to the way it's used here, where a large part of it is synonymous with 'underground' (note that I am not confusing 'underground' and 'cracker' here - I'm just saying that there's some overlap between his definition and the one here).

However, I think that the glider was an excellent choice. For anyone who has never played Life, you need to do this on an Atari 400 with the Video Easel cartridge (catalog number CXL4005), which came with a fully-editable version of Life built in. Since original Atari hardware is in relatively short supply these days, an emulator will also do. In any event, Life - ah, just go play it. It'll make more sense than me explaining it, anyway.

As for copyleft or thinkgeek... Well, who cares? I mean, really. For the most part, they're open-source lifestyle accessories. You know, like the bike or ski rack on an immaculately-polished SUV. Their opinion doesn't count for much in my opinion. But that's just me.

I can see the point, but it would never fly, especially with all the asshats going around and sullying the hacker name, we'd be back at 2^1

If we had to pick a symbol I think it would be Chris's standard photograph salute. Would make things very clear to anyone who saw it, and act as a deterent to stupidity (I hope)

I'm with kevin on this one, spam just got out there some how, and it's origin is not really known. This guy kinda wants to force something on you. FreeBSD had a demon from the start, same with linux and tux penguin.

But 'hacker' and the such, by origin, was to be a so call unorganized cell structure of crazy techie's doing random (good and bad) stuff, just cause they wanted to tinker with more then their bike. You can't group this sort of culture sub-sect with a logo. Our logo's are our individual Avitar's and Screen Name/Handle's.

It is clear to me now why, wanting to change my handle is not good. Becuase, you don't see McDonald's chaning their arches, and StarFUX changing their mermaid lady logo. A standard logo is not us, we are us. This is why we do what we do in the first place, right?
