I can't even dive to the bottom of this thread without losing my head. Please God, make it stop.

First of all, you use a memory card to enable the FONT and AUDIO exploits (No Modchip Option)

Second of all, you can mod ANY version of xbox, if you're dead set on a 1.0-1.1 then buy a manufacturer refurbished xbox for $125 and save yourself $50. Most of these are version 1.0 xbox.

Third, Modding an xbox is hardly a "team effort" it is the result of soldering one wire onto your d0 contact point and installing a header pin.

Finally, Do not buy a modchip designed by anyone other than team xecutor! If you're new to the scene, and looking to mod your first box, then definately stick with the X3.

If you have further questions, I suggest you stick to a better user base such as the forums at www.xbins.org and www.xbox-scene.com

That's the same reason my husband got interested in Gamecube hacking... our 7 yr old isn't exactly kind on those damn cd's.

Fuck the manufacturers and their blocking of fair-use copies.

    .... no. ...

    4. Illegal Content/Misuse
Do not violate any local, state, national or international law or regulation when using the discussion platforms. Do not use the forums to arrange for the exchange or transfer of any pirated software, porn or other contraband. Refrain from posting or communicating any person’s real world personal information. In simple terms, do not post to this board looking for illegal things like warez, drugs, pirated mp3s, or explosives. Also, refrain from making illegal requests such as 'will you hack this for me', 'I'm looking for a hacker to change my grades', 'we should all take down ____.com', or 'how do I totaly delete this guys site'. Remember, this is a public board. Anyone, ANYONE, may be reading.
The point of xbox hacking is not to see how many games you can copy to your 128GB drive without paying the companies for playing them. The general theme behind xbox modding lends to the idea that you are spending more money for additional functionality to the platform Microsoft has already provided. I personally copy my games (the ones that I purchased and own) to my _larger hard drive_ to prevent wear on the original discs. I also have run several linux variants on it, use the DVD drive without needing my remote (across the country from me), various homebrew apps, ftp, and xbmp for other media files. ..having my own custom dashboard is all cutesy too.

THE DEFCON FORUMS DO NOT CONDONE PIRATING OR OTHER ILLEGAL ACTIVITY.

Please cease and consider this a warning, mrugly.

.. now returning this thread to its original programming ..

the mod plus dvd copy software (to mafe game copies )
was the way I thought I had to go. :D
These forums do not ecourage Xbox hacking as a means to pirate software, but as a platform for running legitimate homebrew applications such as media players, homebrew games and emulators.

PS, you don't need to buy "special software" to burn xbox games, since windows can't even read the filesystem of the xbox dvds. there are however, hacks to create backups using network copying.

Because the old Dashboard with a buffer overflow in its font handling code is still a valid signed .XBE, and Microsoft didn't place any explicit checking in the bootloader to disallow the use of the old Dashboard [a simple memcmp() against the signature would be sufficient, but I guess Microsoft doesn't care that much], you can downgrade the Dashboard and still get in at boot through the font handling exploit. I haven't done this myself and don't know the specifics, but I've talked to people who have done it successfully.

I was lucky enough to buy a modded v1.1 from a friend with a matrix chip, and i've had an interesting time finding my way around the system, upgrading EvoX, various versions of XBMP/XBMC and difficulties updating the matrix bios when it was still in the box.

With a 120GB drive, it's got a ton of room for...backups of games i have...movies, music and whatever else you want to have on it.

If you are still looking for an older version than 1.4, Id look at pawn shops, flea markets or in the used systems at places like gamestop and EB. Other than that, sometimes you can find someone selling them on www.dslreports.com and ofcourse there is always EBAY. usually those end up being newer versions though.

    Good Luck!

Some mod chips, such as the X2 Pro, have a switch that lets you disable the chip when you want to use XBox Live. Of course, this only begs the question, "Why would you want to use XBox Live?"

Why would you install a modchip, which costs money and is prone to physical failure, versus using the software hack which costs no money and is not prone to physical failure? The only remotely valid reason is that you're a tard who gets his kicks on XBox Live...
