I suppose I should add one more of my all time favorites- Slayer: Dead Skin Mask-
[(spoken:)
How I’ve waited for you to come
I’ve been here all alone
Now that you’ve arrived
Please stay a while
And I promise I won’t keep you long
I’ll keep you forever]
Graze the skin with my finger tips
The brush of dead cold flesh pacifies [sings ’appease’] the means
Provoking images delicate features so smooth
A pleasant fragrance in the light of the moon
Dance with the dead in my dreams
Listen to their hallowed screams
The dead have taken my soul
Temptation’s lost all control
Simple smiles elude psychotic eyes
Lose all mind control rationale declines
Empty eyes enslave the creations
Of placid faces and lifeless pageants
In the depths of a mind insane
Fantasy and reality are the same
Graze the skin with my finger tips
The brush of dead warm flesh pacifies the means
Incised members ornaments on my being
Adulating the skin before me
Simple smiles elude psychotic eyes
Lose all mind control rationale declines
Empty eyes enslave the creations
Of placid faces and lifeless pageants
Dance with the dead in my dreams [hello? hello mr gein? ]
Listen to their hollowed screams [mr gein? ]
The dead have taken my soul [lemme out of here mr gein]
Temptation’s lost all control [mr gein? I don’t wanna play anymore
Mr gein]
[dance with the dead in my dreams [mr gein, it’s not any fun anymore,]
Listen to their hollowed screams [i don’t want to play anymore mr gein]
The dead have taken my soul [mr gein? lemme out of here mr gein]
Temptation’s lost all control] [lemme out, lemmmmeee oouuuuuuttt!!]
"Gloves of Metal" by Manowar (later coverved by Anal Cunt)
Hear the pounding army of the night
The call of metal summons us tonight
And gather we on this site
To behold the power and the might
We wear leather, we wear spikes, we rule the night
Off with the lights, hear the screams
See the banging heads awaken to their dreams.
The sound of metal so loud it cracks the beams
Played by warriors called the Metal Kings.
A hero's welcome for those who heed the call.
We are together, we are all.
With hands high fists fill the air
Against the world we stand.
Hands high forever we'll be there,
Gloves of Metal rule tonight. Yea
A hero's welcome for those who heed the call.
We are together, we are all.
With hands high fists fill the air
Against the world we stand.
Hands high forever we'll be there,
Gloves of Metal rule tonight. Yea
Leather, Metal, Spikes and Chains
Gloves of Metal raised to show the brave.
Into the darkness march the armies of the night.
Bound by metal we live the fight.
We wear leather, we wear spikes, we rule the night
With hands high fists fill the air
Against the world we stand.
Hands high forever we'll be there,
Gloves of Metal rule tonight. Yea
It conjures ideas and fantasies of a trek across America I've always dreamed of. It's all about that moment on some sunny summer evening when you're travelling somewhere by train, with the girl of your dreams asleep on your shoulder... you look around you to see all your closest friends either asleep or nearabouts, and you see the sun setting in the distance - and you realise that things are finally going your way. When life doesn't seem too bad after all. That 'anything's possible' moment.
I seem to remember there was a Coca Cola advert that sort've went along the same lines as that, about 2-3 years ago.
I know many of the people who posts here are what can only be describe as audiophiles. So in your vast depths of musical libraries which song best defines you as a person?
Not which two songs define you or the album that reminds you most of yourself which SONG, singular.
Such a vast, soul searching type question and limited to but TWO homages?? I would have to think on it for a bit and get back to you.
EDIT:
OK, off the top of my head...
Poles Apart by Floyd
Did you know...it was all going to go so wrong for you
And did you see it was all going to be so right for me
Why did we tell you then
You were always the golden boy then
And that you'd never lose that light in your eyes
Hey you...did you ever realise what you'd become
And did you see that it wasn't only me you were running from
Did you know all the time but it never bothered you anyway
Leading the blind while I stared out the steel in your eyes
The rain fell slow, down on all the roofs of uncertainty
I thought of you and the years and all the sadness fell away from me
And did you know...
I never thought that you'd lose that light in your eyes
Night of the Long Knives by AC/DC
Who's your leader, who's your man?
Who will help you fill your hand?
Who's your friend and who's your foe?
Who's your Judas, you don't know?
Night of the long knives
Where's that saviour, where's that light
When you're praying for your life?
Who's that fighting back to back?
Who's defending whose attack?
I forgot Neil Young / Don't Let it Bring You Down...
Old man sittin' by the road
And the lorries rollin' by...
Blue moon sinkin' from the weight of the world
And the buildings streak the sky...
Cold wind rippin' through the alley at dawn
And the morning paper flies...
Dead man lying by the side of the road
With the daylight in his eyes...
Don't let it bring you down
It's only castles burning
Find someone who's turnin'
And you will come around
