I read this and a few days ago went to my local wally world to check it out nude comps or linux OS...they dont have them in stores for the lack of sales, but they give you a wal-mart order form to order the comp and Linux, which the price for the comp and linux was $200 cheaper then the ones in stock with Windoze...

I've seen them in a couple of stores, but they don't really seem to be making much of an effort to sell them. FWIW, Fry's was also carrying a similar item, but they weren't Lycoris- or Lindows-based. Can't remember the name of the distro they were using, but I seem to remember it was Taiwanese and designed specifically for desktop use. Again, no real effort was put into selling them.

And to be perfectly honest, I'm not surprised... For 90% of desktop users, there's no real reason to use Linux (or any other OS) compared to Windows.

You can buy them from their web site. I think they actually have more than one flavor of linux and you can buy them without an OS. I doubt if they are in stores.

    Doesn't Walmart do this already?

Well, maybe Bill would compete against Linux the way he competed against Netscape - give the product away.

I'm glad to see Linux taking a much more agressive PR line in the last year, but they definately need to hire a better PR firm. They haven't launched a commercial that I think is appealing yet.

Muhammad Ali was telling "Linux" to shake things up, meaning the O/S is going to take the world by storm.

I'm with you astcell, I can't figure it out either.
