    For a CD, you can just scratch off the reflective surface... then break/melt it...

      yes.
      if you never want to use the drive or disk again it's surprisingly simple to destroy data....my father's wood chipper comes to mind....

        If you work in a decent sized corporation...throw the stack of CD's in the microwave for about.. 30 seconds or so, do it at night so you can watch the cool lightning storm while you're doing it, then take them to your work and use the paper shredder, most good shredders will tear a CD to pieces in a heartbeat, and with you cooking the CD in the micro beforehand, any data recovered wouldn't be enough to do anything with I feel.

            Thats a sweet looking device; I would buy that rather then all of the other ways of destroying a cd/dvd. Really breaking the cd or scratching it up isn't too bad, its the dvds that drive me up a wall. Good post though Astcell!
