  • FHSS in the 2.4 GHz spectrum?

Anyone here know anything about monitoring 2.4 GHz FHSS? May or may not be 802.11 compliant. I'm grasping for anything here - hardware, software, etc. I've gleaned a little bit of info from the Linux wifi boneyard but I'm wondering if anyone here has anything else to throw at me.

    Thanks!

    Thanks!

Search around for the old Proxim Harmony hardware. I recall it was FHSS. The card came with software for monitoring FHSS.

FHSS is 802.11 and falls under the original specification. (No "b", "a", "g", etc.)

FHSS "hops" through 79 channels (78? Something around there.) in the same frequency area as 802.11b and g, using a set sequence for the hops.

Monitoring it is simple... As long as you have the hopping sequence for the station(s) that you wish to monitor. The obscurity of the hopping sequence is often touted being more secure than DSSS. Unfortunately, like a lot of things, the factory default settings are often used by users who can't be bothered to actually RTFM. And like a lot of factory settings, they can usually be determined with a bit of research.

In addition to Proxim Harmony, BreezeNET/BreezeCOM (now Alvarion) was also a common brand.
