    I'll second that vote!

Ditto, but I stuck with ScreamTracker 3 and (later) ImpulseTracker. FastTracker was nice, but the GUI drove me freaking insane.

I really hate all this crappy, overcompressed, newfangled "techno". There was some really great electronic music being put out in mod format, but when everyone else suddenly takes an interest in electronic music, it's so they have something to dance to while all fucked up on drugs. Techno is the new disco, ugh...
No shit. Fruityloops has made every fucking song sound alike, and the (mostly) death of the demoscene has left damn near no-one who can actually compose electronic music. Remember resampling instruments, or tweaking playback rates to get a more natural tone? Hell, staggering playback from centre-C worked in a lot of cases. I miss that.

    Module Trackers

For some reason, I'm feeling compelled to introduce anyone who may be unfamiliar with .mods to them. In short: a .mod is a type of soundfile from the late '80s composed of both samples and playback data - kind of like a midi file, only the sounds triggered at each step are contained in the file rather than on an external synthesizer.

My first exposure to them was under Quartet on the Atari ST, but the infatuation continued through Impulse Tracker on the PC. I still screw around with them using Cheesetracker, but figured someone might be interested in looking into it as well.

(Just missing the demoscene tonight after watching the B.I.G. Demo again. Damn nostalgia.)
