No one checks. My wife had her purse stolen so of course the thief had ID to match the credit cards, so when the clerk looks at the ID it matches the card, no one ever looks at the person. As for my driver's license, for some reason they have not shot a new pic, I think the one I have is like 12 years old.

In Sweden at least a person with a fake ID is not considered to be either trustworthy or mature.

Maybe in the US this is normal?

I don't know if it is normal in the United States, but it is fairly popular. I don't know what the rules are like in Sweden, but many things here are based on age rather than maturity level. If I were underage and wished to go to concerts sponsored by beer companies or to see Michael Moore's new movie, then an altered or fake ID card would certainly be an option.

Unfortunately, although not unexpectedly, many immature people tend to abuse fake IDs to participate in acts for which they are not ready. This behavior tends to create a certain stereotype that both of our countries seem to share.

Personally, I won't hold the fact that stuartwesterman has a fake ID against him. I first attended Defcon when I was 17. Although I had already graduated college and was working full time, I was still legally considered a minor and potentially faced the dangers highwizard had mentioned. Fortunately, even though I was alone (and without a fake ID), I had no difficulty in booking either a flight to Las Vegas or a hotel room.

Sleep by the pool during the day (2pm-5pm) at Con. That way you can be safer.

Just don't do it at night.. That's when they come, that's when they'll get you!

I am most likely moving to South Africa just after the con and I won't be making a whole lot of money in american dollars. It'l cost me 5,000 bucks for a plane ride in their currency so this will probably me my last :(
