  • LayerOne, June 12th-13th 2004, Los Angeles

Just a quick update for everyone who has been keeping an eye on LayerOne's progress. We're less than seven weeks out from day one, and are pressing on full-steam with ironing out the last-minute details. Our venue is still the rather nice Westin Hotel at LAX, June 12-13, 2004.

We've got a broad range of confirmed speakers (including people such as Danny O'Brien and Dan Kaminsky) on a varied list of topics - VoIP, the legality and inherent impacts of many technologies, social software, cryptography, and points both in-between and off the track.

Pre-registration via PayPal is available through May 7th, and offers discounted admission - $40 versus $50 at the door. We've also got majorly-discounted rooms available in the hotel ($109/night versus $169/night) if you use our discount password of 75C3D via the booking form.

We hope to see as many of you there as can make it, and want to thank the community at large for the support and assistance they've given us. It really is good to know that so many people have been behind us on this, and truly appreciate it.

If I knew about this a few months prior, I would definately come. Next year for sure.

I have not registered, yet, but I will soon and be there with bells on.

May I also suggest to anyone not from California or certain areas of Arizona and Nevada that they visit the In and Out Burger that is just a stones throw from the conference. I do have other culinary and "don't miss" recommendations, but In and Out Burger is the Filet Mignon of hamburgers. If you go, get a Double-Double Animal Style. (You will not find Animal Style on the menu. It's not a joke. Order it that way, they will not laugh at you.)

Look for the guy in the Racer X hat. I'll help you get there.
Ya got no legs, don't come crawlin' to me.

If you literally have bells on, I'll buy you a beer.

Hell yes it is. I'm not a huge fast-food fan, but an In-N-Out Burger is definitely one of the local culinary treats. Also: there is nowhere north of the L.A. County line (with one exception, but it's in Ireland) where you can get really good Mexican food. Anyone gagging for killer Mexican food needs to come to this con. Seriously.

I'm big on the 4x4, protein-style. Damn tasty stuff. Hopefully I'm not giving too much away by dropping out this link.

Listen to this man, he speaks the truth.

Damn right all y'all right-coasters don't! Nice find, btw.

In other news: we now have ad banners for anyone looking to do graphical linkage:

If anyone using them would be so kind as to store those locally to save us the bandwidth hit, we'd be majorly appreciative of that. We're not exactly swimming in amazon.com levels of connectivity here, but truly do appreciate whatever people can do to get the word out.
