"Alcohol" and "tolerance" are two words I hate to see in the same sentence.

It's always a good test to see how much blood your alcohol system can take.

Hey, go easy on the guy. Stereotypin' the whole gaming crowd is like saying all hackers are unscrupulous dastards [yes, DASTARDS] who do nothing but vandalize corporate property for their own fiscal gain. Perhaps there is the likelyhood that people who go to def con and are into computer security like playing video games, too? This guy initiated a thread to guage interest, and there doesn't seem to be much. He's not there to play video games, he's there to go to def con and maybe play a game or too with a chum who like him can't legally drink. Heh, I just may be that chum.

Call me an extremely cocky dick from a nation where the legal drinking age is 18-19 and underaged drinking is not enforced; fuck that. It's DC. It's Vegas. I'm drinking. You should too.

[disclaimer: i don't drink excessively and i don't drink in a fashion that would leave anyone 500 ft within me liable. furthremore, unlike what MADD insists, I will not rape any women, get behind the wheel of a car, or snort crack.]

Interesting, it kinda adds another challenge to the event. Kinda like the other side events they had in years previous.

this isn't the first year the topic has come up.. and this isn't the last year most shoot it down as lame. many people chill at tables the entire weekend and pickup lan gaming is probably pretty easy amongst the crowd... but seriously.. this is defcon, you can lan party anywhere.. this is defcon.

I am all for the idea of putting a Quake 3 tourney on the root-fu network... now that could be interesting.. at awards, "Yeah, our team pwnd most of the the lan party segment and used it to DoS the poll server while in between scoring against the other teams"

Out of 4 cons I took a computer twice, and it was on a total of 30 minutes. If your computer is cool enough to wear, or fits in a suitcase or pizza box, go for it, but it may turn out to be more of a burden than a blessing.

While it is true you can do any of these things individually (sometimes somewhat combined), Jessie is absolutely right in that you can only do them all simultaneously whilst in Vegas (surrounded by people who know how to do it better) at Defcon.
