  • Hotel...

I'm kinda freaking out here. I really want to go to defcon this year but I don't know about getting a hotel! Will there be enough hotels that are avaliable to book registrations?! I've been searching the internet for hotels but unable to turn up anything relevant to what I'm llooking for.

Does anyone have a link to a hotel booking website, or the website of a hotel where I can book a room, or something?

Is it even still possible for me to get a hotel? I've put it off for over two months now :(.

    Thanks
    John

Have you been checking out Expedia / Priceline?

Its true you probably won't find anything on Harmon, but hell, its LV. Its all about the hotels.

    And taxis EVERYWHERE.

I can guarantee theres rooms available somewhere in Vegas. Near Defcon is another matter all together.

You didnt say "what your looking for"

      Try

Theres 2 handy maps, You can get an idea what hotels are near.

Also that map only shows major hotels/casinos. Theres alot of smaller hotels/resorts in the area.

Alot of the cheep hotels you find on those websites are going to be downtown.. You dont want to Taxi to and from Defcon, from downtown, its at least a 10 minute if not 15 ride, and about 15-20 bucks at least. Also 1 blocks in vegas can be a mile long, so dont let the map fool you on distances.

Nope. Sorry. No hotels left in the entire city. :D

Just kidding - the cheapest/closest hotel I've found is the comfort inn on Paradise Road is right across from the Hard Rock, and is in walking distance to the AP.

IF you want even cheaper, you can stay at the HoJo at the Airport, but you'll be at the mercy of the taxis, and if they run a shuttle to the AP. Last year they did but they stopped the shuttle at like 6 PM.

Remember- like the old Priceline commercial says, don't spend too much on your hotel room, you're only sleeping there. That is, if you plan to sleep. And, you'll also probably stash your stuff there too. Of course, the farther away from the AP you stay, that's all the farther you'll need to haul your gear back to your room.

        Hope this helps....

Thanks for the information guys! I've been looking at hotels and I've come across this one...

          3850 LAS VEGAS BLVD SO
          Las Vegas, NV 89109-1050
Excalibur Hotel and Casino is located on the Strip, approximately seven miles from downtown and two miles from McCarran International Airport.

It says that its 7 miles from downtown. Does that mean its only around 7 miles from alexis park?

          Thanks
          John

Excalibur is only like 4 blocks from Alexis.. about 2 miles maybe..

            (I stand corrected, I looked it up, 2 1/2 blocks. 1.3 miles.)
Short taxi ride.. not walking distance though.. unless you want to go on a trek..

Excalibur is a middle class hotel/casino.. its a big place.. not the fanciest.. but its ok... you can see where it is on the map I provided up there..

            heres a better map, http://www.itravel.bz/images/stripmap542.jpg
Alexis is almost across the street from Hard Rock.

Its about 2 miles (i think like 1.5ish?) like Syntax says:

here's a thread about the HOJO, I've stayed there more times than I would like to admit:

              https://forum.defcon.org/showthread.php?t=3636

I stayed at Excalibur in October, and it wasn't too bad. Register on line, I think it's like $10 cheeper. You're across from the MGM grand, and I think NYNY. (DO NOT PARK IN NYNY's GARAGE!! BEWARE!)

Memory serving me correctly from other posts, you are under 21?

You're going to have to have someone over 21 to book the room, or shack up with someone who already has a room booked.

tip for future reference: when planning a trip, book the hotel well before your departure. do not wait until the 40 day mark and do not initiate redundant threads on a web forum.

First of all that just sounds like that scary episode of different strokes where the bad man tries to touch Arnold....

But it has been posted quite a number of times that there are links from the main DC page, as well as from the FAQ that Highwizard has that help you find a room close to the AP....

...I am amazed at how many people attending a hacker convention are so helpless, or at the very least too friggin' lazy to find information for themselves...it just seems to cut at the heart of the 'spirit' of the con...

I must be in a bad mood tonight or something.
