It would make sense that you would find a thread on lockpicking in this forum section, but it was closed for a while until the planners for LP-CON were able to publish the rules.

(Normally, you would be expected to locate threads which discuss your topic before starting new ones which are redundant. However, I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt since you came to this section instead of the less obvious "community" forum section.)

im sorry if it didnt seem like i didnt search the forums, i actually did - i also searched google.. i was asking, personally, what do you guys prefer for a (homemade) torque wrench? i know some people who like theirs springy and some who like an allen wrench, just asking

I have and use both styles of tension wrenches.

The "springy" style (sometimes called "feather-touch") on many of the cheaper locks and vary the tension applied as I rake locks.

While actually picking, I find the rigid tension wrench allows my fingers to actually feel the vibrations in the plug and the pins as they ride and the pins each get set.

From experience, I find it is easier to teach people how to use the springy tension wrenches first on the cheaper locks with raking; it is much easier for the beginner IMO as it is easier for me se see (visually) how much pressure they are applying to it, and the springyness allows it to be more forgiving than the rigid style.

When speaking with locksmiths, many prefer the springy style, but locksmiths do not spend most of their time picking locks, so this does not say much.

I've only ever made rigid style, but primarily use the commercial rigid and "springy" tension wrenches.
