Sorry to bring this thread back to life..

..but a quote from Family Guy tonight just seemed like it needed to be posted here

"Math is nothing more than the lesbian sister of biology"

You obviously didn't read my response to this whole situation earlier.

Binary is a number system, a base. In general terms, math is language. But we won't get into that here...

All your number base are belong to us.

Yepp. I know - that is why I mentioned that he also had basic books.. The "Elementhary mathematic" is very fundamental, and it cover parts of the primary school curriculum here in my country .

Binaries are math, and I am not so sure there are any easier way to learn them than going "the hard way".

If someone doesn't understand some basic math/number skills, I wouldn't point them towards discrete to start with. You might as well tell them to start with eplison-delta proofs. Learn basic skills first, then go on.

In fact, they are very good. When you have gone through his Discrete Mathematics book, I am sure you will understand the answers you got here.
If you are in need for basic, you will also find books about that

On the topic of the un-possibility of me failing english, the book ''Eats. Shoots and Leaves'' has to be the most interesting book on punctuation I have ever read.

Thanks for pointing out the erroneous nature of my lazy typing grammar. Has anyone noticed the differences between the american and Irish spelling of some words?

You have earned a beer penalty. You owe me a beer for making me read that and you must move 10 yards closer to pool 3.

I *was* going to make some reference to being negative, but I thought it might already be over his head ;)

Anyone who wants to learn about binary should start by learning about number bases. Learn to convert between bases BY HAND. Base 8 (Octal, for the slow kids), Base 16 (Hex, for the even slower kids: "Hey how much is $FF in American dollars?!?!") and finally base 2 (binary: "Isn't %1100100 more than 100%?") Really neat things can be done in code where you play with shifting bits (you can save lots of code space *and* speed up some executions).

And I *have* to say this in reply to digi's last post:

Ralph Wiggum: "Me fail English? That's un-possible."

If you really want to understand my post, try adding it to yours. You'll see that we get nowhere. ;)

Almost any time a joke is explained, it's charm and entertainment is destroyed. It would be a disservice to this joke to explain it, and I won't do it.

A number of papers exist out there to explain different things that can be done with binary. Use google to find these, and you will be on your way.

I like this reply very much. :-)

    [Edit: added content below]
Of course some might say you were being a bit negative. ;-)
