But why would you get so upset if someone through you in the pool? It's happened to plenty of people here and most just laugh it off among friends... As long as they ask you to remove your tech there is no reason to go to physical violence over it.

I know a person who had an accident where they ended up crushing a bone and having to go through surgery to have a 6 inch railroad-spike sized chunk of metal put in to replace the bone fragments that were removed. The accident was not caused as a result of being tossed in a pool, but depending on how this person could be tossed into the pool, or grabbed, or instinctively react with motions to try to brace for a fall, they could lose mobility and function to parts of their body and/or face a lifetime of pain.

Right now, you can't tell by looking at them that they are limited in this way unless you see the scar.

Pool tossing is part of the con. There are people who show they are asshats or fucktards who deserve a good dunking in the pool, and there are people who don't know how to part with their "'tude" (attitude) as a conference where things are supposed to be more social and less about posturing.

From what little I recall, only people who have really deserved it, get tossed into the pool. (There are exceptions with friends who have known each other for a long time who may shove each other into the pool or flying tackle each other into the pool, but that is not quite the same thing, and these people often know each other well enough to know about such things. :-)

You make the Goons not seem bad or rapist like at all. That makes me happy.

With less than 2 weeks for this survey to end, we have some statistics to help the new attendees to DefCon:

                      1) Listening to the speakers on TV or in the conference room
                      30/53 ~ 56.6%
This is a popular item. If you are not informed, being a member of the herd suggests this might be a good choice. With so many people choosing to do this, it might be a good idea for you too.

                      2) Being part of CTF, WarDrive competition, or other games
                      15/53 ~ 28.3%
Many of these games require some basic skills, but some do not. 1 in 4 people polled plan to play, why not you?

                      3) Playing video games on your computers on the LAN
                      3/53 ~ 5.7%
Only one in 20 people are choosing to sit on their asses playing video games that they could easily play at home without DefCon going on around. If you are coming to DefCon to spend a large part of your time playing games, you are missing out on so much more... on the other hand, while you are playing games, the presentations will be less crowded. :-)

                      4) Drinking and/or Socializing with complete strangers / new friend / old friends
                      46/53 ~ 86.8%
Holy Crap! Here is a big hint on what DefCon is about... *socializing*. If you have never been, do not make the mistake that I made for so many years. Don't keep to yourself. Meet people online. Meet people in person. Bring your best social skills. If you plan to drink, bring some drinks and a spare liver. [If you have no skills, make up for it by being generous with refreshments when you hang with others. If you have skills, sharing them with others may make you appear as a God to new users who may want to share what they have learned with you next year.]

                      5) Watching TV (other than DC) from my hotel room
                      2/53 ~ 3.77%
OK. I just put this here on the off chance that it would be a joke. WATCHING TV (other than DC) IN YOUR ROOM!?? This is DefCon! Get out and socialize! Even people who play in LAN parties are doing better than this! They are at least fragging other con members.... You!? You're stabbing your brains with Q-tips!

                      6) Seeing all of the other Las Vegas Shows
                      5/53 ~ 9.4%
Many people arrive at their Hotel several days before the official DefCon begins, and stick around after the closing ceremonies. Some go out to see other shows with people they have met at DC or knew from before.

                      7) Putting out fires created by cluebies / working
                      8/53 ~ 15%
Shows that 15% of the replies are from Goons or "responsible people." [Not suggesting Goons are or are not responsible.] This works to the advantage of the poll; the average Goon has been to many DefCon and they really have a good idea on what DefCon is all about. They have *experience*.

                      8) Unconscious / tagged / pepetual member of Pool 3 / Watching or making porn
                      12/53 ~ 22.6%
Almost 1 out of every 4 people may be in this boat. If you are traveling with 3 other people, and they are not in this category, maybe you will be. ;-)

                      9) I am so clueless I can't begin to guess how I will spend my time at DC12
                      4/53 ~ 7.5%
You have 2 weeks to "get a clue" and figure out what you want to do.

                      10) I do not care to answer your stupid poll. I want my money back!
                      2/53 ~ 3.77%
Since I did not charge you anything to take this poll, you get all the money back that I charged you.
                      One point of logic though:
If you "did not care to answer the poll" then why did you answer the poll? You were lying to yourself! If you can't trust yourself, who can you trust?

These numbers are not final. Less than 2 weeks left for this poll.

Yeah, I'm looking forward to meeting CotMan....

All the unofficial events should be a good time as well....like the BBQ, SushiCON, etc....

If I didn't need it for my demo in the TCP/IP competition, I wouldn't even be bringing my laptops. It is not shocking that most people are going to socialize. The computer is the axis mundi for many of us all the friggin' time. I'm looking forward to IRL chatting.

About 30 minutes (or so) left for this poll.

Last chance to vote. There will be no recount.
