Since it's in Italian I figure it was him. Lets you know you really got to them when they feel the need to come back from the banned to try and flame you. Its especially nice when they are so angry they have to revert back to their native tongue to insult you in.

So I wrote him back:

I did not respond to that thread. By the time I got to it, people were providing the poster with immediate feedback and a true learning experience. :-) (The forum members were gathering as wolf packs do when they target new prey.)

I came here to try to "hang out" online _before_ the con so I could "hang out" with people in person _at_ the con.

So here is a question about this topic:
What is it that draws these kind of people to these forums?

Maybe they like the movie War Games?

Anyone else have other ideas as to why asshats and fucktards are drawn to the forums?

I have some patience for people who are ESL-ers, but cluelessness is not something limited to only English Speaking countries.

Well, the one thing I notice is that most of them always say that their friend told them to come here. I've got a couple of theories on that

1. The friend does not exist. They are attempting to gain acceptance by insinuating that they know someone here, thus protecting them from themselves

2. The friend exists, but has been banned already. I remember Dr. Hexagon and his pal Dr. Octogon from a year ago. They both were taken care of in a few days

3. The friend exits, knows about the forums, and hates us. So, this person then sends tards our way out of spite

4. Theres another forum similar to this one and they send their asshats our way, if so, we need to find out who and return the favor.

What makes you think that a specific type of person is attracted to the forums? If we make a couple of assumptions:

• All other things being equal, many people are fucktards or clueless
• People that are not fucktards or clueless refrain from posting because they know better

So, if this forum gains members in the natural proportion of normal and fucktard/clueless, then you will predominately notice the latter.

Besides, it is a losing war. For every insightful post that a person can make, they could be making dozens of "garbage" postings (like this one).

That is why I don't envy the moderators. :D

Not every post that isn't insightful is garbage. Hopefully the very nature of this place will act as a bell-curve-filter for the clueless. The moderation/filtering of this place attempts to skew the curve away from the standard ratio of tards to non-tards.

I don't consider some of the *fluff* conversation around here losing the war to the tards; all work and no play makes Homer something something....

No argument here. Defcon is an interesting combination of parties, competitions, and informative talks for those who don't wish to pay for Black Hat. It would be wrong of me to assume the Defcon forums should be something different. :D

Yeah. And there is a fine line between tardedness and interesting fluff. But there seems to be quite a bit of just plain stupidity lately. I'm glad the DC forums are so harsh on the tards, it goes too far in other online forums before things are done about it.

I think the answer is simple, when the homeless see someone who appears to be better off than they are, they come begging for a handout. The forums, a place filled with people who are rich with intelligence attracts the intellectually poor, and unmotivated. They come here looking for a handout.

Actually, that's a decent analogy for the way fucktards live. I have a theory why they latch on like remoras to a whale that eats sloppily, but it would take too much time to write it all out. Maybe it could be a panel discussion at DEFCON one year? "Fucktards and Asshats: A growing trend, " maybe?
