  • IPv6 Tunneling

I am thinking about tunneling my IPv6 packets through freenet6.org and wanted to hear some general thoughts on the security of such IPv6 proxies. I figured that if AH, and ESP are used then the transmission would be somewhat secure, although at some point the IPv6 packets would have to be decapsulated in order to be used by the receiving host -- any thoughts on this ?

In theory, it's as secure as any IPv4 tunneling. Don't rely on hosts you don't trust, don't transmit cleartext, yadda yadda yadda. The real issue with IPv6 is that it's buggy as all hell and still not widely adopted. It's a fun toy to pull apart and understand, but I wouldn't rely on it for anything important.

      Thanks for the reply.
Thats the main problem with the freenet6 proxy is that you cant control which features are utilized in the tunnel and i just dont trust anyone else mangling my data.

Then don't, duh. Until it is widely adopted, proxies are your only option.

Oh i know. I wanted to tunnel through freenet6 soley to see how it worked/performed. I know that going through a proxy for security reasons is sorta lame on a couple of reasons such as possible logging by freenet6 on which sites the IPv4 packets where sent to.
