  • Hack the Screen Savers box,

Did anyone catch what they are doing on the Screen Savers? They want you too hack their computer, and put an icon on the desktop!! I dont know about you, but I think things like this feed the kiddies even more. Here is the link

I'm not sure what your problem is. What they have done is very similar to a honeypot, except that they happened to advertise the address.

What about www.hackthissite.org? Are the operators of such sites also "feeding the kiddies"? How about the Capture-The-Flag competition at Defcon?

One might say that TechTV is doing a service by providing legal targets for normally "illicit" behavior while simultaneously raising awareness of security issues.

I understand your point and it does make sense, but what happens when the "how do I hack" post comes up and it is moved too dev/null?

I'll feel no pity for those "dev/null". After all, I was sent to "Fucktard Hall" once[1]. ;)

I understand that such publicity stunts invariably draw lots of "undesirables" here, but I just see it as the price you have to pay. Plus, the moderators won't have enough work to do around here until at least June of next year.

Oh, and were these forums mentioned specifically on the show? Three related posts almost immediately...

[1] Unfairly, in my opinion, but I'm not going to cry about it. :)

I wasnt really "crying about it" but I just wanted to put the situation out there so the
mods know why there was an increase in the "how do I hack" threads. ;)

So Far on the hack the box thing i have tried port scanning it with nmap and it appears that the Host Seems Down. It might also be blocking the ping probes of nmap. I Just tried not pinging the host and i got this URL ca-stmca-cuda2-blade1b-211.stmnca.adelphia.net. It scanned all 1660 ports and they are all filtered. THis is were im gong to to stop cause i got to study for my freaking pSATS for tommorrow. So Congrats to anyone who hacks it.

Anyone remember the days when the Screen Savers would pop into their network settings and display their EXTERNALLY ACCESSIBLE IP address, then they'd be beseiged with winpopup messages?

                          I see now it means

                          Internet Connection Firewall

So they are running the new Firewall on sp2.

Chris are you going to try to hack it. :)

Try not. Do or do not.

To seriously answer your question...no. First of all, I hate TSS and would rather slam my dick in a car door than appear on their show. Second, I get to beat up on XP SP2 all day at work. I don't need to thump my chest for the viewers of TechTV or whatever they are calling themselves this week.
