  • ShmooCon discussion board

FYI, and as per several suggestions, we fired up a discussion board here:

    http://shmoocon.forumhoster.com

This was mainly so people could coordinate ride info & crashspace, but naturally, it can be yet another online hangout for folks, I suppose.

    Thanks.

    Sincerely,

    Beetle

Your registration on the forums is a bit messed up.

    Perticularly the "security Code Bit".

I am now registered (although it took a bit of work). I assumed it was simply the first test. :D

My avatar doesn't work either. The code responsible for serving dynamic images is obviously still recovering from Defcon. ;)

So the first bug with they dynamic register code is fixed. The second bug is not a bug, it's a feature. No avatars, no uploading, no images, blah blah blah. The board is simple and stupid, I know--but it does the job for now. ;)

        Sincerely,

        Beetle

          Getting in?

I'm posting this here instead of the shmoocon board since I feel like it still has a lack of traffic there and this question is more geared to my friends who attend defcon then the larger community.

When does everyone plan on getting in for ShmooCon? Thursday, Friday, Earlier?

I will hopefully be heading in Thursday evening or at the latest early Friday morning.
You're either on my side or else you're in the way.

I was planning on getting in Friday morning, but if y'all are gonna come in Thursday night, I guess I can do that too.

I guess I will shoot for thursday then.

I wish they had gone with something in Tysons Corner. The only thing I dislike so far about shmoocon is the location they picked to host it.

Hmm. I work just outside of Tyson's corner, and it certainly would have been easier for me and many other Shmoo in the NoVA area to have it in or around Tyson's corner, however, we avoided Tyson's Corner intentionally.

The reason for that was simple. Tyson's Corner is not D.C.--it's Virginia. And it was a laugh when Black Hat Federal was billed as "in the heart of D.C.", when it was 30 minutes OUTSIDE of D.C.. So we looked at options, including metro stops, and airports, etc. and ended up with a con that is TRULY in the heart of our nation's capital, just off a metro stop, and right next to a happening bar area.

We feel it's a good combo and should provide for a good turnout. We'll see!

And for others considering coming in on Thursday--I'd come in on early Friday morning if I were you, as there really isn't anything happening until Friday evening. Unless you are hell bent on seeing some sights in D.C., in which case, definitely get in on Thursday or Wednesday even. Your call.

                    Later.

                    Sincerely,

                    Beetle
