  • Wired/Wireless LAN partitioning

I have a Siemens Speedstream router/AP that I've been using for a couple of years without incident. There is an option in the admin menu to keep the wired and wireless segments of the LAN separate, which I've always kept enabled. I can't ping or scan my machines on the LAN from the WLAN and vice versa.

When I run Kismet with the string capture function on, it captures the SMB mailslot beacons from the machines on the wired segment. How can this be? Is this common with other types of APs?

Whats your public ip address ? maybe i can remote in and help you figure this out

Seriously, mabye your AP is setup to block specific types of traffic such as ICMP (ping) requests, but doesnt filter network broadcasts. Are you running anytype of host based firewall on your wired machines ? If so, then the firewalls may also be stopping your ping requests from going through.
I saw your mom on myspace!

Ipfilter is on the box broadcasting the SMB beacon packets. I can ping it on the wired LAN segment without trouble. I just thought it was odd that it allows any LAN packets onto the WLAN.
