Alexis Park: Passive Aggressive / Cost prohibitive pricing?

<noob>Alrighty, now we get to laugh at the DC newbie. I was just curious what the deal was with defcon this year. I've seen quite a few posts about it being canceled but I wrote those off as minor jokes. I've also noticed mention of reservations, and other such things. I would very much like to attend the con, but I've no idea about how any of this works. Anyone mind helping me a bit with explinations, while uhm... not making me look like a complete idiot?

If you want to stay at the AP (best for the con experience with CC TV of presentations, and close access to the events) then get your reservations some time during January. By March it will be too late.

If you are strapped for cash, go with a hotel nearby (several within walking distance.)

Check High Wizard's Unofficial DefCon FAQ for useful tips.

If you know people who have gone, and are going again, see if you can stay with them... they can help initiate you in con events.

Spend a little time doing everything. Don't just party. Don't just wardrive. Don't just attend presentations. Do a little of everything.

Also, look through threads from previous DefCon where people have asked this question before.

And... use the forum search

In ordinance with the new Alexis Park colors we leave our black
clothes at home and all wear orange during DEFCON XIII.

I think the pics really answer the question from the first post. It's not cost prohibitive pricing that they're using, it's the paint scheme. The old AP colors were very gentle on the hungover eyes. These are making my stomach turn when I'm sober...

The new owners are either color blind or have really, really bad taste.

Its Vegas, the colors are made that way on purpose to clash with the decore.

I was being a little facetious when I said that, just commenting how AST's camera kicks ass. However there are pics available from kallahar I believe if you check out 23b's gallery, should be in the 2005 new years section, that's all I'm giving you.

which brings me to the retelling of the story behind the BEST DEFCON QUOTE EVER.......


It was the wensday before DefCon 10. I had just picked up Octal (-pussy) from the airport, we met up with a few other atendees in the lobby. As all 6 of us strode back to the rooms (each of us dressed in the same All Black clothes, and two of us in full length trench's) to drop off everyones things (all of which was pack in HUGE Pelican cases as luck would have it) about 6 of the girls swam over to the edge of pool 1 and stoped us in our tracks (a few of the pelican cases were even dropped to the ground in a moment of shock) by looking up at us with hope in there 12-14 year old eyes and asking one simple question that will forever be burned into my mind ................................... "HEY!, are you guys filming a movie?"
