If it came to that, Pahrump would not be a bad choice. It has large venues with cheaper rooms, the area is prettier (considering the comparison is Vegas, that doesn’t mean much) and there'd be fewer distractions.

More hackerific than Vegas? Closer to LA? With 8,000 attendees could we own that town for a few days?

    1. Not Vegas, Pahrump and I prefer to refer to the ladies of Sheri's as Service Professionals

    2. I would try to cover the system compatibility/equal opportunity issue by flying specialists(from EU if you prefer)

    3. It would be a nice balance between geek/hacker and sexy, hot, inviting, wanton ,...uh where was I, oh yeah.....Service Professionals
How long have you been living in Chicago and you aren't familar with the 'Service Professionals' in Melrose Park, via Lviv?

I figured it was a joke. They probably do not have the capacity in rooms in the entire town to handle all people who might attend from DefCon or have enough booze in town to keep the convention rolling. Las Vegas does not have that problem. Then when presentation and meeting space is considered, it's even worse.

If the venue *was* to change to "Sheris" or the Chicken Ranch or Mustang Ranch or where-frigging-ever I still won't cancel my reservations at the AP until July 24th at the earliest.
After having worked in a Hotel before, I can tell you that hotels frequently overbook on a regular basis. If you registered with the AP under "DefCon" they may assume a larger percent of you won't show up anyway. If they get too many people showing up, they will relocate you to another hotel and pay the difference in prices (If any.)

I'm not saying that it won't have an impact if a lot of people do this, but it may be less than anticipated.

AND, there's a free shuttle, I don't think you get that at the AP?!

If you're going to Vegas for the hookers and skanks why not do it some other time when you don't have to hang out with a bunch of geeks and hackers?

It's not official unless it comes from DT

I love the way rumors get started around here. This is a classic example.

If the venue *was* to change to "Sheris" or the Chicken Ranch or Mustang Ranch or where-frigging-ever I still won't cancel my reservations at the AP until July 24th at the earliest. In addition, if the focus of Defcon were to change so that Pool2Girl and porno/whore-con were the highlight rather than, say, the robotics competition I don't think I'd bother to go at all.

I can see skank anywhere, I don't need to waste my vacation in Vegas to do it. I'd rather go to the EU.

If you're going to Vegas for the hookers and skanks why not do it some other time when you don't have to hang out with a bunch of geeks and hackers?

At this point, I'm hoping that DT also changes the date, although I doubt that will happen. I developed a schedule conflict after I made my reservations at AP.

Oh yeah? What kind of events won't be covered? (heh heh)
No worries. With all the money brought in from pimping, er relocating the con
this year, I am certain special arrangements could be made for those of
us requiring special events, uh hardware, uh software, .....

There was another thread on this subject and I'll paraphrase what I said there, here.

If you can afford to book, book at the AP. If the venue changes, book at the new venue but wait until that last -145 to -72 hours (if you can) to cancel at the AP.

The *only* reason I booked there is proximity to the con and CC. F*** them.
