Not that I particularly care about the content from the phones of a couple of "celebrities" (I've heard of her because of p0rn, and never heard of him), but I am curious about the exploit, if there is one. In the prior thread atripes said that he thought that P. Hilton's phone was lost by her and found by whoever exposed the information.

Gizmodo.com reported: "Since the Sidekick II stores copies of all its data on T-Mobile’s servers, this means that it’s more than likely that everyone who uses the Sidekick (which is only available from T-Mobile), is at risk of having their private pictures exposed to the world. There is a rumor going around that her password was conned out of her, though, which would be lovely to hear (since it would mean the servers are theoretically intact)."

The official T-Mobile statement regarding P. Hilton (according to Gizmodo):
"T-Mobile is investigating the reported disclosure of Paris Hilton’s information. T-Mobile’s computer forensics and security team is actively investigating to determine how Ms. Hilton’s information was obtained. This includes the possibility that someone had access to one of Ms. Hilton’s devices and/or knew her account password. Given the sensitivity of the situation, and to protect our customers’ information, we are not able to provide specific details of the investigation at this point."

As to M. Durst, it looks like this is NOT a T-Mobile exploit or even a wireless phone exploit according to CNet News. http://news.com.com/2102-7349_3-5590569.html The first issue is that Durst is not a T-Mobile subscriber, and secondly the video starring Durst and the woman couldn't have been recorded on a Sidekick, as the device does not have video capability. Accoding to T-Mobile via CNet " The video is also of a resolution not available on a wireless handset."

Based on the CNet story, it would appear that Mr. Durst's personal PC was attacked, and that was the origin of his video.

So all in all, is this just a couple of people who don't practice good security on their home PC and phone (just like 200 million other people in the US...) or is there some actual security issue on either the Hilton phone or T-Mobile's servers?

*Curiously, it would appear that dispite the potential security issues the SideKick is now a hot commodity for T-Mobile according to this same site. Don't you just love human nature?

Im aware of a huge problem with t-mobile cell services. But it only effects voicemail. Gotta love VoIP.

It could have gone to SQL Injection exploits.
It could have gone to wireless exploits.

It could even have gone to the general crappiness of *all* major cellular carriers (Consumer Reports).

Totally derailed? Except for the title, the first post was entirely about the Fred Durst video. What follows is a couple of rather brief, if immature, jokes, a rather informational post by Thorn (thanks!), a hint to other vulnerabilities, and someone backing Thorn.

Would bitching about personal horror experiences with the telecom industry been better? Personally, I dont' think so.

I notice you didn't contribute anything useful, and it's probably the same reason I have not: the story had no details relating to the T-Mobile break-in because there was no break-in!

That's pretty much the conclusion that I've reached after checking further. It would appear that Durst' PC was broken into, but that's hardly something newsworthy in and of itself.
