From windows XP, view the control panel "Display" there is a tab "Themes" under which the Classic Windows theme (Windows 2000/95) is available.

There is a way to do that on XP too but I only have 98 so I don't know how to do XP. Hope this information was helpful

Well, I tried it on Windows XP Professional which probably explains why it is not working...but let's pretend I am running Windows 95 and it has already been installed, would I still have the choice of which model to run?

I do not recall that being an option built into the OS as a choice after it was installed.

If you love the windows 3.1 look and feel like I do but need windows 98 to run newer apps, just install 98 then click run on the start menu and type in system.ini and where it says shell=explorer.exe change that to shell=Progman.exe. It looks and runs just like 3.1. The only thing you will notice is that you will have to create the program groups yourself. But that is no big deal, only took me 30 minutes to do. There is a way to do that on XP too but I only have 98 so I don't know how to do XP. Hope this information was helpful

I have heard that by changing file: explorer.exe to progman.exe the windows will change to win3.0...i have tried it but does not seem to work

Windows 95 had an option available upon install, where you could choose to have the old Windows 3.x interface, but actually still have Windows 95 running. [ Sort of like Win XP "classic" view is more like Win@2000]

What version of windows are you testing this on?
