        It's not over. There is too much money involved. Appeals or new laws are likely the future; it won't die easily.

          I can see where this is going. "Hey Noid, I'll trade you that DVD recorder for my pre-ban AR-15..."

          I guess we'll soon have a new BATF. The Bureau of Actors, Television, and Fines.

            Or it will come back attached to some anti-terror law.. either way, you are correct. Too much cash and control involved.. look for this one to come back with a vengence.

              Here is a guess on one form it could take if new laws and courts don't help them with their agenda:
              * Some sort of encryption or "new" coding standard will be created.
              * "Decoder" boxes or firmware upgrades will be made available at the cost of "signing" an EULA where the consumer agrees to accept limits of a broadcast flag at home.
              * The big players will charge less for those who agree to the new system and continue to raise prices for those who don't because "supporting a legacy product that is end of life is more expensive than the new product."
              * People will complain
              * Suddenly, hackers are popular again, and the dc-forum top question is, "How can I hack 'teh' broadcast flag on my DVR/PVR/DVD-R/etc. ?"

                  I posted (the story) to slashdot and got beat out by thirty minutes. I think my headline was: "No July 1 deadline to buy a uncorrupted videocard" or something.

                              Who the fuck are you to say what words can and can't be used?

                              Peepee is a fine term to use, like suck my peepee and lick my hairy nutts.
