Ok im new to this stuff, and I have been trying to get around Bess, and Novell. I have used cmd prompt to ping then go to the IP directly, but the admin took my cmd prompt, so what i want to know, is there a way around Bess or to override the options the admin has taken away?

Go home, ping all the websites you could ever want, write them down on some paper, then when people ask about all those "weird numbers" you can say you're a 1337 hax0r and you're going to DoS the school server(s)!

Anyways, that'll only get you suspended from school. I'd suggest using the in school time to:
a) Do homework
b) Visit "approved" sites.
If you truely believe a site is ok for school, I'd take a personal visit to the Network Administrator(s) and talk to them about it; if you're right, I'm sure they'd be more than happy to remove it from the block list for you.
If you want to visit something non school related, I'd wait til you get home.- Programmer -

I personally have to use proxies at my school because our admin has an interesting policy. He essentially went and blocked everything and then during a week over Christmas break, unblocked sites that he or the school deemed appropiate. I had to do research on "Roman Weaponry" and later on "The Gallic Wars." Both were blocked for Criminal Intent / Excessive Violence. To get anything unblocked, I need to fill out a 1 1/2 page paper with mine, my parents, and the vice-principal of academics signature to even get a site looked at for unblocking. After getting proxies, its much easier for me to get to stuff (school related or not) and there is less "bothering" of the admin. That's no girl, that's a spacestation.

Also, paying a friendly vist to the admins office and flashing a little cleavage never hurts."There are no failed experiments, only more data"

I go to an all guy school, I don't think that would work
Last semester I got the filter entirely removed by tading that for telling my teacher how to activate the center island of computers. We had new computers, and then the internet didnt work, so he sent them back and ordered an entire new set. He was about to get fired, then I told him he needed to plug in the cords to make them work.
Later he was fired for not knowing anything.
Waste of a semester of me trying to learn programming.
He also had the nerve to tell the administration I had my own admin account and full access to everyones grades, (which I had for more than 1/2 the semester). Password lists laying on the floor are amazing.
I ended up getting a warning.That's no girl, that's a spacestation.

This is in the United States?
Does this school allow military recruiters to come in on 'Career Day' to talk to the seniors?
This is yet another example of bad policy compounded by lousy software administered by an idiot admin, exacerbated by parents who abdicate their responsibility for their children to a school that can't even do their job. Instead of teaching inquiry and evaluation of information, they're blocking your access to information.
It's too late in the year to protest this bizarre, facsist anti-education policy but there are other avenues you can take. It seems fairly clear that the admin is a waste of space and oxygen. Since your parents are paying for your education (public schools are co-ed) you should bring this to their attention. If you get no play with your parents and the PTA like organization at your school, take it to the student government. Raise awareness. This policy fosters fascism and that's supposed to be wrong...That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

The sad thing?
One thread was started the same month as this thread, on the 17th with the last post on the 20th.
If the general discussion of "how to bypass a proxy" were included, you would found MANY, *MANY* more threads that duplicate much of the content of the bess threads.

I really dont understand all these talks about bypassing the securities set by the admin. The admin has been hired to do such things. I bet he has his own rules to follow as well [set by people higher than him] In fact we are all governed by rules.
Before answering to this post I asked myself, "why do I want to bypass the blocks at work?" and the answer came out simple. Because I want to and I can't. "then why can't I tell our admin?" because it is not really that important.
I am not saying that the admins are right, all Im saying is that if you really feel strong about something, you let it be heard.
Put it on black and white if it needs to.
If the site or anything is really vital to your learning it would be better to let the admin or someone on higher ranks know. Just like ndex said "raise awareness"
In the long run, if the claims shall be succesful, access shall be given to everyone not only to those who knows how to "hack"
...for the benefit of many
Only my opinion

For me, its like the law, maybe on the time of writing it was deemed necessary but in passing of time not anymore. The law should be revised not circumvented

If it's that much of a problem, the ideal thing is to become the admin (duh!)
And if "Admin" is your country or School, do your "interesting" surfing outside of that environment. While both seem like (and may be) prison, work on hacking out of the environment first, then worry about getting to milkandcookies.com later!"Never Underestimate the Power of Stupid People in Large Groups"
