First, don't use obnoxious colors in your text. Such behavior is generally considered rude.

Second, it is difficult to make specific recommendations without knowing what operating system you use. Personally, I use FileVault, although mainly out of convenience.

I'm going to guess that your collection is on an open network share rather than a protected folder, though. Different philosophies, I guess.

Its realy simple and often overlooked, winzip it!
Use the password protect feature and make a good long non dictionarylist password like

Hate to say it but a password like that could never be cracked by conventinal means, not even by me.

Seeing a password protected folder is a sign to parents, they will want you to unlock that puppy ASAP. nd hackers LOVE seeing protected folders, it is such a tease.

How about making a folder, hide your stuff in there, then run the ATTRIB command in the folder, something like attrib +h *.* then it will appear to be an emty folder. You can even put G rated pictures in there of duckies and bunnies. Then run attrib -h *.* to unhide your stash, vuew it, then hide it again before you go to bed.

I looked around yesterday and I believe you need the purchased version of winrar to do this. The advantage of winrar is that it archives folders AS folders, winzip just adds the files in the folder, at least, that's what I found yesterday, I could be wrong.

I also tried this yesterday. Isn't it the equivalent to right clicking, properties, then checking the "hidden" box? If Tools->Folder Options->View->Do not show hidden files or folders is checked, it won't show up, but if the opposite is selected, it will. After I ran the attrib +H command for a folder, i closed the window, re-opened one, and typed the path name into the address bar and it showed up. So I guess I'm asking if the attrib command and the "hidden" box is the same thing.

I'm almost certain this is not true. I made one yesterday because I had never done it before, added files, passworded/encrypted them, restarted, and added more files. I believe all you need to do is re-type the password, or add a new one, or something along those lines.

I believe that the attrib cmd comes from the word, attributes, and therefore would probably imply that the 'hidden' attribute the the folder via menu, and 'attrib +h .' via cmd line is the same thing.

I think the best way to hide a folder, is to just store it on a thumbdrive that you just take with you when your done with whatever it is your 'doing' on the computer.... The only trace of your actions would be browser stuff, and firefox has a good privacy page in the settings that has a 'clear all' button then maybe delete the recently used documents. Thats prob. good enough to 'erase' your tracks, other than some stuff that your parents for friends prob arn't going to be able to recover.

Ive found that if you find non-recognizable characters (ie. alt-168 etc), you can use the command prompt to rename the folder using the right characters. Windows can still see the file, but the characters it doesnt recognize show up as blanks, and it will refuse to open it. Then, all you have to do is go back through the command prompt, rename the folder to something standard, do what you will, and rename it when youre done.

Sure its a bit tedious, but how badly do you want your porn stash hidden?

They are the same, but astcell's original suggestion was slightly sneakier: the folder exists, perhaps it even contains a few files to look "authentic", but the specific files that you want hidden are not normally visible.

Of course, I immediately configure my Windows systems to show hidden files, but this guys friends/family may not be that savvy.

Note that many USB drives come with password-protected encryption software these days.

control pannel>folder options> make sure the box listed as "view all hidden files and folders" is turned off.
then right click on the folder and click the option that says "make hidden".
