Also not really a newsflash....Linux will pretty much run on anything I imagine if you could get a current from a moonshine distillery that would suffice for the power source. Now that only leaves integrating components into the potatoes themselves for a motherboard....

It's not a slap in the face, it's a wake up call - if MS wants to remain relevant in the next 20 years they're going to have to adapt to survive. Linus Torvalds has known that gaming was the key to Linux acceptance for years.

It's safe to say that, since windows runs on over 85% of the desktop market that better than 85% of the people who read these forums (more read them than write) would not be online if it weren't for Gates/MS/TheBorg. He's the richest man on the planet. If MS disolved into nothing he would still have more money than the church. He could give a shit, I'm sure, if a bunch of kiddies learn to ride linux boxes. The money in this industry is in data integration, bandwith and applications for financial transactions and data mining. Big business. It is in big business applications and the business desktop productivity applications where MS stands to get beaten to a pulp if the market were to shift to linux/osx/solaris.

I would completely agree another interest of note is MS decline in the IE monopoly what with Mozilla, Netscape and Opera on the rise offering slicker and more streamlined surfing what with Mozilla's plugins and tab browsing, Opera's streamlined http://www.opera.com/products/desktop/ and Netscapes.....well I really cannot say anything about Netscape because I have not used it since the days of Netscape 3.0.

It would not be outlandish to suggest that Gates might actually want to do something other than MS for the rest of his life. There's so much more interesting stuff to do on earth than go to work in Redmond. One of these days he's just going to Howard Hughes, walk out of that office and never come back.
