    Pickz for Purcha$e?

    Greetings,

    I would love to enter the LPCON; however, the picks I have currently are of the SouthOrd and needless to say, are no tempered spring steel. I'm talking about socks with "Mickey Mouse on one side and Donald Duck on the other"! In order to proceed, I am curious if picks will be for sale upon arrival and if so is it possible to procure a set before the challenge?

    Are you trying to make a comment regarding the quality of SouthOrd products? I think you will find that most of us, including the contest organisers, purchase our sets from SouthOrd. I believe Irvine Underground had a few pick sets for sale last year, but they were very basic sets. If you are particular about quality and selection, you need to consider a higher end set. SouthOrd carries some very fine products, you just need to know what you're looking for.

      yes, there will be a variety of picks available at the con, but as octal pointed out most of us have picksets that aren't uber-fancy. most vendors have southord gear (and the picks that i will have available for the public during my hands-on session are from there, as well)

      if you really want a pro-type set, consider investing in some peterson tools. they have a variety of nice pick sets... if you're just starting out consider their City, City Lites, or "Just Picks" packages.

        Boys boys,

        I'm certainly not knockin the Ord by any means. SouthOrd were my very first picks and I would prefer nothing other (As I've yet to see anything finer). My concern is simply this; I have the following set of picks which I deemed worthy for something "On the go" or "Oh, let me see if I can help with that...":

        I'm afraid these little guys won't make it considering the age and condition... I would like to move back to an individual set of something carefully picked (No pun intended). I figured it'd be better to score them at Defcon. Hopin so... thanks for the info though... lookin forward. =)

          No wonder you have a bad image of them... that's a pretty flimsy tool, meant to be handy in a pinch, but not entirely useful. This is the set I have from them, very nice:

            Many apologies . It is rare (In my area) to find girls that share the same interests. Sad but true

            I am familiar with the set you have, they are most exquisite. I'm looking for something to that effect with regard to durability. I have their snap gun I purchased back in 97' although I've yet to succesfully pick anything but my nose w/ it jk. It's been a while since I've picked (given the tools) but I am looking forward to the challenge and I also will be bringing a lock which was thought to be unpickable. I've been at it for quite some time myself and I have to tell you, mushroom pins aren't simple. I'll bring the lock, hopin between a few heads... it may finally be picked. Hope to meet some new folks out there, maybe we'll see you there.

                Have you tried using a good tension wrench that is lightly spring-loaded? You may want to if you have not, the tension wrench will help in bypassing the false breaking points found in mushroom pin locks, add some good ol' raking to that and you should have no problems give or take a few tries.

                  I'll be yet another to backup southord picks on this one, I own a nice 32pc set I bought from them a couple years ago and have loved it ever since. :)
