wow about 2/3's of respondants report having meet their mate online at one point or another. What's odd still, is that your still togeather. Well odd for me to see I guess.
I don't get it either. Tried online dating, didn't like it. You can't pick up on the "RUN LIKE HELL *NOW*" vibe from email - unless, of course, the email is going along similar lines to this letter.
Do you suppose in today's Internet climate, you could still have found each other?
I think people still manage to forge relationships and hump without teh intarweb... I could be wrong, though...
I met 2 girls online when I was younger. One was a heroin addict who disappeared one day to go into rehab w/out telling me. The other was this extremely *large* girl.... We had talked on AIM for a little bit, ended up calling me because she was having computer problems, and we decided to go out for a slice of pizza. She had said that she was slightly overweight, which could mean anything coming from a girl. Every chick thinks she's overweight. Hell, my current gf is 5'9" and weighs 130 and thinks she's fat. Anyway, so I'm sitting in my truck in front of the pizza place, and towards me walks this disgustingly obese girl. Now, I mean like, fat suit fat. I thought one of my friends was plaing a joke on me. When I saw the sweat dripping off her double chin, I really thought she was just going to ask for directions or something. She looks at me, says "hi, are you..." and at that point my truck was already in reverse and i was spinning gravel all the way out of the parking lot.
Never again....
As for geeks and dating.. I've never really dated a true geek, but usually the chicks I date respect me for it. Although, there's always that "you spend more time on the computer than with me" arguments. But thats just something you have to deal with.

See this is what pisses me off. Because ANY of your time is ALL of her time, no matter if 5min or 1 hour was spent without her she claims NONE of your time is every spent WITH her. This logic drives me up a wall. I think that if your going to settle down it's important to have a girl with one of the following: a) An early bedtime b) a slightly higher then usual use of computers.

I had exactly the opposite experience. My wife told me online that she sometimes had a problem eating, so when we met, I was expecting someone who weighed more than me. What she meant was that she sometimes forgot to eat - at 5'7", she was all of 115 lbs. Much of that, I'm pleased to say, located by nature on her chest. I was happily surprised by the miss-read on my part.
Never say "never again".... (Lousy remake, but good slogan)

Dating sucks to most people... you just have to look at like a computer in a sense... for instance I was talking to my friend about women... He likes this one girl but he has no patience. he was working on re-installing gentoo...its like a stage1 the more patience you have in the end things will run smoother and better later on... the less patience you have, the more risk of complications...
I have a radio called Geek Love for anyone that might be interested... were on a summer hiatus working on two huge projects you might see around but we have archived all our old shows. www.geekloveradio.com

We'll be walking around DEFCON if you see us stop us we'll be around filming for one of the projects we have going on... you won't be able to miss the cameras and the crew
I meet an exgirlfriend on IRC, she was trying hard to learn about hacking... it did not work out, I felt in love with her, and she keep getting me in trouble cause I had to clean her mess everytime she explored the servers of the school, I was taking the blame to keep her out of it, but this did not help. She never follow my advise, and went on making friends with some guys in the organized crime... from credicard fraude to only God knows... and of course I ended been dumped aside... I was obviously too controling, trying to impose rules on her... She never understood my logic nor the least about ethics... Granted she knows I did not share a lot of knowledge with her, but why should I if she was not moving in the right direction. I loved her a lot, and still miss her, I may never find someone like her again. but We have certain principles, that can not be broken, not for sex, not even for love.

That's... disturbing. For geeks, by geeks, nothing but geek advice. No offense... I'll stick with Dear Abby.
And for my $.02... geek love sucks ass. Having too much in common only leads to stepping on toes.

Dear Abby? I need to get you to Seattle so you can check out Dan Savage, now that is a man with some advice!
As for me, I met my boyfriend at Defcon. It was a shock for both of us. We were both very bitter from past relationships, and 'the scene'.
It is inching towards three years now, and he is one of the few people that I have spent that much of my life with that I haven't wanted to smoother to death in their sleep with a pillow - so I suppose we are doing something right.

I have the same problem and it didnt become a problem until after the honeymoon.
You would think during the 18 months of dating she would have figured out that I had other interests that didnt include her!
This sounds like a presentation in the making. .. Maybe one of the "understanding" women/men at Defcon could give a class on coping with companions who work with computers. I would sign my wife up in a minute!
You know it's funny, they don't complain on payday.

If that saying is true, then there must be something really wrong with me because I don't think people should have to change to able to make the other person their with happy.
