Not going to DefCon?

Sorry to say that I cannot come this year. Just after getting locked in to come, I had a close loss in my family, as eldist of the siblings, its my business to wrap. It was painful to giveup my tickets and begged floorspace.

I very much enjoyed meeting everyone last year in person and I will miss being there this time around.

Well, I will be attending, ghstwrtr will not (he's living cheap saving up to buy a new bike). Icetre is going, and last I heard Tommee was going to make it.

Anyone that is't going to defcon still have a room reserved? I am willing to pay you 50$ if I am able to reserve a room at the Alexis Park resulting of properly coordonated cancellation

just for the record, if DataWorm gets a room, alot of people call me to see if I have space... it would be a good thing to be able to tell them who to contact or contact who I can in order to get everyone a place to crash.. let me know if you have a room you aren't using.

That could make it quite a bit easier near pool2, strip clubs, and in random searches of hotel rooms, but I am not so sure it would help in the presentation rooms ...

Had a Job a while back that knew of my HOPE/DC plans and were cool with that until one of us 3 techs left and the other was fired, literally leaving me with the work of 3 people.

After not doing anything resembling hiring a replacement or even looking, I reminded the boss of my vacation plans (that I booked off 6 months earlier) and that he might want to get a replacement. He told me I could'nt go (flight an everything already booked) and that I needed to stay (no raise or compensation offered to cover his stupidity).

It's not my fault he did'nt hire replacements, so I gave my 2 weeks notice and the day after I left, I hopped on a plane and never looked back.

I wanted out of there anyways, this was sort of the last straw, but it's nice to say that I quit a job to goto Defcon.

There's not much that would stop me from going to con, but I agree with Chris, work/family commitments take priority.
