  • Briefcase

    Hi all,

Now this may be deleted, but I am being genuine so we'll see. My fiance's friend just died and she has to handle all his affairs. He had a briefcase amongst his stuff (with the three numbered wheels thingos) that she wants to open, but doesnt have the combo. I've tried the obvious ones. I can force it open, but its a nice briefcase and I wouldn't mind keeping it. I aint no locksmith so any suggestions?

    cheers:)

Generally, posts are not deleted. They may be moved to other areas as examples of what not to do

3 digits? 1-10? Brute force and you could probably get it in less than 1 hour. 1000 combinations, and on average, you would only need to search half the space.

Some briefcases have two sets of 3 rollers but use the same code for both sides, while a small number can actually have different combinations for each side.

The safest route (although potentially expensive) would be to get a lawyer. Especially if there are lots of issues to deal with. They deal with it all the time, he/she can probably find someone to open it up.

Then again, as TheCotMan suggested, brute force can't take all that long.

there are great tools that open the large majority of dial combination briefcases out there. if you know what you're doing it's not that hard to bypass those locks. of course if you're making this all up, you're breaking the law and i take heart in the fact that there's a good chance you're an asshat who will either not be able to pop the lock or will get caught somehow. if you're being genuine in your request for assistance, chances are you are smart enough to not be doing anything illegal.
"I'll admit I had an OiNK account and frequented it quite often… What made OiNK a great place was that it was like the world's greatest record store… iTunes kind of feels like Sam Goody to me. I don't feel cool when I go there. I'm tired of seeing John Mayer's face pop up. I feel like I'm being hustled when I visit there, and I don't think their product is that great. DRM, low bit rate, etc... OiNK it existed because it filled a void of what people want."

I think I'd put the briefcase on Ebay. Unlimited potential.
