Yeah, I saw all this stuff this morning also. The laptop is definately fake, (the screenshots are really really bad photoshops, the numbers are misaligned all over the place) but having that patent is going to really convince some folks. Sometimes I really wonder why people go to so much trouble to fake something like this. Then again, there WERE at CES this year:

Ima take the devil's advocate here for a second.

Say, maybe that they have a shitty webdesigner. That much is evident. I have a 5 year old who can make a much more pleasing to the eye website. Let's say for instance also that this company is real.

Now, if this company were real, why is it that they decided to put 1 TB of ram in a machine with only 2 TB of storage? I could see if it were 1 TB per every 40 TB of storage, but 2? Someone was not thinking clearly.

From what I gather, the RAM is nonvolatile. It would make sense in a situation like that to load everything (OS, applications, etc.) into working RAM needed to actually use the machine, and save data and state to the storage RAM. But yeah, point taken.

Anyway, I think it's for real. After all, real chip manufacturers use plastic lawn chairs and wear bunny suits in their classrooms!

Anybody bought any Quantum Opto drives recently ?

I'd be amazed if they show up at CES 2006, and even more amazed if they are bringing any real products which can be demonstrated to those attending the show.

They might have the ideas, they might even think that their technology is viable, but I wouldn't hold my breath just yet.
If anything, the Atom Chip Corporation website might be in the best case, a hope to attract investors, and in the worst case, not just a hoax, but a fraudulent hoax.

The old proverb : "If it sounds to good to be true, it probably is." comes to mind here.

I believe the product is a viable product made by people who are so brilliant that they invest in loafers and velcro shoes because they cannot tie normal ones. Furthermore I am planning on investing in their stock, all 5 dollars worth of it.

I remember hearing about this guy a long time ago (the article posted above isn't what I read though, I keep thinking it was in Wired but that can't be right), but even so I don't believe it.

I have a hard time believing that anyone capable of making something so far ahead of what we have out now would have such a shitty website, make up units of measurement and use horrible photoshop techniques. Even if he is a Russian immigrant its not like Russians can't make websites....if they are sober. :)

it's a total fake. either that or a very badly-done joke. or possibly it's an insane person whose brain is orbiting the planet Zemog but who takes themselves seriously in thir own deluded mind. the line between all those is kinda blurry. heck, what did you all think the first time you ever read about Alex Chiu's Immortality Device?

the basic consensus everywhere seems to be that this is either door #1 or #2. as a slashdot commenter pointed out, a thread on OSNews has a pretty good run-down of why this is horseshit. then again, those of us who braved the horrible web design and actually browsed through some of the pages of the AtomChip web site may have come across this gem of a page. one look there should convince even the most hopeful true believers that this is all malarkey. (the photos of dime-store audio equipment being described as "NvIOp 24GB 3-pin RAM" are particularly bad)

and of course all of this is unrelated to the equally relevant fact that just about any mainstream O/S that i can think of doesn't currently support hardware of these sort of specs.

A lot of the technology that we get is throwback Military tech that they have long since made obsolete. Who know what US R and D have? Don’t you just love a good conspiracy theory?

This technology is real. It was perverse engineered from alien technology. The reason why it has taken so long to get to market, is that there have been a number of bugs. Most of these have been fixed, but some have not.

All units will be shipped with special warning labels that reads:
"Danger. When this device is enabled, you may be at risk for anal probing. Do NOT use near cattle, or in fields of wheat, or corn."

Could be a joke, could be hype, could be a company that is going bankrupt, and has given pink slips to all their employees, but one employee decided to leave a joke behind. Could be a lot of things, but I am leaning towards hype/fake/joke.

Theres articles posted everywhere about this. Slashdot did one as well. The overall view on this is that its a fake.. its even mentioned on MuseumofHoaxes.com

One page states that the max supported ram on windows XP is 16GB.
This page on Microsoft mentions limits of 4GB.

Another piece of proof that their claims of 1TerraByte of ram cant be supported by the hardware/software they are using.
