Just wondering if there's anyone around who plays blackjack. Trying to stimulate some interest for some fun (and maybe profitable) activities to do around Vegas while we're there.

Poker is more of a psychological game. I haven't played much but prefer games based on hard numbers than mind games.
MIT's blackjack knowledge is available now for only about $200.. http://blackjackscience.com/"All are gone, all but one"

Blackjack is one of three table games in which the player has a higher advantage than the house.
In order to maximize that advantage, you need utilize a high/low count, perfect basic stratgey and have team play.
If you don't maintain all three, using one of the others won't help as much.
Using all three to dominate a table and make money is not illegal.
However, if you are suspected or caught using it to make an ass load of money, the casino will ask you to leave the property. They ususally use this line, "I'm sorry, but your play is to good for us and I'm going to have to ask you to leave the property."
Also, since most casinos are now tied to together via a network (ie. SIN), once you get labled as a "card counter" and 86'd from one casino, your picture & info will be sent to all other casinos and you will also be banned from play from there.
So, keep your betting amounts low and don't make an ass load of money.
By law, casinos have to collect info & report to the IRS on people who make more than $9,999 on table games and more than $1,199.99 on slot machines.
Play baccrat and/or mini-baccrat, you have a larger player advantage than blackjack or craps. That way, you don't have to think as much. Therefore, you can get wasted on the free booze and still make money.“If someone has a gun and is trying to kill you, it would be reasonable to shoot back with your own gun.” - Dalai Lama (Seattle Times, 05-15-2001).

it's roughly akin to a bar owner hosting amateur boxing... his best brawler gets in the ring and there is an announcement "who wants to challenge this bar room hero for a chance to win $500?" then, when a dozen hands go up, the bar owner lines up the volunteers, looks them over, chooses the five scrawniest, weakest guys, and tells the others to sod off. that's a fair comparison, in my mind.
personally, i feel that casinos are merely a half-step up from the rigged carny booth type of "entertainment" where the public has less than no chance of ever coming out on top (i still can't figure out why there are people whom i know that play slot machines for hours and hours) but they really rub it in everyone's face with the notion of "we're not ass-raping you guys quite enough... this one good player is a thorn in our side... he must leave, so that we can keep bending the rest of you over a tree stump more thoroughly.""I'll admit I had an OiNK account and frequented it quite often… What made OiNK a great place was that it was like the world's greatest record store… iTunes kind of feels like Sam Goody to me. Casinos are out to make money by offering the masses the slim chance that they can win big. Even though the chance is slim to none, people still feel the need to throw money at that chance.
If you are successfull at making money in gambling, casinos have a dim view of you due to you cutting into their profit margin.“If someone has a gun and is trying to kill you, it would be reasonable to shoot back with your own gun.” - Dalai Lama (Seattle Times, 05-15-2001).

fo the second time in a day I must appologize for not having been around in the past few weeks but the move has me all disconbobulated....
I know a thing or two about blackjack, the Griffin Gold Book, MIT Investment Group type playing styles, and the like...
Anyone that thinks that BlackJack is not a game for grownups has never played 27 hours straight... they have never walked away from the table $10k up after 7 hours and chances are they ave never been asked to leave a casino and never come back (now there is a cool story).
For those of you that are looking for more information on blackjack ro card counting I suggest they read "The Worlds Greatest BlackJack Book". It has a review of all the rules, odds, play styles, a few different card counting methods and goes in depth on the HI-Opt1 system that I used for 3 years... it paid the bills and fed me so much free lobster that it was all I ould taste for months...
Happy huntingIf I had a nickle for every time someone offered me ten cents to keep my two cents to myself... I would be a rich man.

I can't say that I've had the luck that Siviak has had, I usually try new strategies out on the boats around here, and generally look at it as a great way to pay for first class upgrades when I don't have the points, and a limo from the airport.
Now if you want to risk a small amount of money and drink like a fish all night long, look into Pai Gow Poker!Nonnumquam cupido magnas partes Interretis vincendi me corripit
