    "I'll admit I had an OiNK account and frequented it quite often… What made OiNK a great place was that it was like the world's greatest record store… iTunes kind of feels like Sam Goody to me. I don't feel cool when I go there. I'm tired of seeing John Mayer's face pop up. I feel like I'm being hustled when I visit there, and I don't think their product is that great. DRM, low bit rate, etc... OiNK it existed because it filled a void of what people want."

      Eh. I am almost always working. I gain joy from solving problems, puzzles, or riddles. I also spend time trying to optimize procedures, or code, and find that entertaining.

      As for going out, most people are stupid, or have too much drama in their lives, or are stupid with too much drama in their lives. It is hard to find intelligent, trustworthy people that like to learn or spend their time doing the same kinds of things as me. I wonder if there is a dating service for nerds... (heh heh)

      Well... if it works like last night, the interruptions in service were very brief, lasting only a few seconds while new rules were loaded, or network devices might be rebooted.

      I think the lone geeks waiting to post on Friday can wait a few seconds or minutes between restarts.

      Right now, mail is broken from the forums. This mean no new accounts are being validated by email, and also means that nobody is getting email notice of new PM, or updates to threads they are following.

      I talked with DT last night, and he explained several of the problems he has encountered with the latest upgrade to the FW. There were many issues, and one or more problems escalated to product engineering for resolution. He described spending more time working on this than I did a year and a half ago, trying to minimize data loss when the DB was corrupted due to multiple hardware disk failures. It is times like these, where I am glad the scope of my involvement is limited to the system stuff, and occasionally forum stuff. :-)

      Ok. I need to get some work done.

          Until mail is working, if you don't get an email confirmation sent to you to validate your email address, send an email to defconforums@gmail.com from the address used to register the account. We'll manually enable your account once your reply to our reply, thus confirming your email address.

            Saturday will have an hour of maintenance at an undetermined time. I will strike like a fed in the day, so be ready. err.. if the forums are down at that time then try back a little later.
            if it gets me nowhere, I'll go there proud; and I'm gonna go there free.

              New defcon.org ssl certs now installed!

              pics, www, and forums are now all good to go.

              -- Edited to add that I fixed an intermediate cert problem.

                        Defcon16 dates announced on the main site:
                        "DEFCON 16
                        DEFCON 16 will be held August 8-10, 2008 at the Riviera Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada."

                        Defcon 16 forums enabled.

                        Some contests visible now will be hidden until we have confirmation they are being planned. Hiding will take place over the next 2 to 3 weeks.

                              Mail is still broken on the forums, which means PM notices and new user confirmation (with email) are busted.

                              If you are a new user and want to confirm your email is valid, send an email to defconforums@gmail.com letting us know your username, and we'll send you a manual email confirmation in the form of 2 simple but random questions, in order to help us weed out the bots.

                              Once email is working again, we'll drop this procedure.

                                Mail server filter rules still need to be updated before email will work.

                                While we wait, this text has been add to the first page of registration for new users. (This is the page where you click "I have read the above.")

                                NOTICE: Email confirmation is broken! To register with the forums until it is fixed, send an email request *after* you register with the forums to: defconforums@gmail.com
                                In your email message, include:
                                * Forum Username
                                * Forum Email address
                                Send your email from the email address you registered with.

                                All confirmations of email addresses will be done manually until email us fixed.

                                Thanks.
