  • Re: PUBLIC-NOTICES: Forum Changes/Fixes. Any Questions?

I spoke to Dakahuna in email and it looks like the problem described is no longer happening. I'm closing that until we get more information on how to reproduce it.

(Maybe disabling the visitor comments, and friends controls helped remove exhibition of this bug, or maybe it was from client-side plugins. I'm not sure.

Unless I'm forgetting an old issue, I think we are now up-to date with reported issues. If you still have an outstanding issue that was reported, but hasn't been fixed as I said it should, please let me know. Other outstanding issues are welcome.

    Thanks!

      Was contacted by Neil:
WarBalooning and Davix workshop made it into the program, so forums for these have been created, and the threads with these have been moved into these new forums with redirections left in their original locations that will auto-expire in 1 month.

Contacted by Neil. Adding contest/event sub forums:

[forum=427]EFF Fund Raiser: Firearms Training Simulator[/forum]
Imagine yourself on a grassy knoll? in a book depository? in a squirt gun fight with 5 years olds? Check it out. Shoot and donate to the EFF at the same time.

(The above it what I put for a description until we get something official)

        [forum=382]TCP/IP Drinking Game[/forum]
TCP/IP Drinking Contest. This is a contest where people drink, and talk about TCP/IP -- sometimes as a result of talking about TCP or IP. For cases where sometimes = all of the time.

(The above it what I put for a description until we get something official)

        [forum=428]Mobile Hacker Spaces[/forum]
Check out the first ever Mobile Hacker Space, which will be parked in the outside chill out area during the convention and comment about it here.

The above description is what I was handed.

This close to con, without a description, you get whatever my twisted sense of humor provides. It is up to organizers of events and contests to provide all of the information necessary or suffer my almost funny descriptions.

[forum=429]SkyTalks[/forum] are new for Defocn 16, and a new forum has been created for them. Pyr0 is the guy organizing this, and he is set as leader/organizer for that forum.

          For more information:

Drunken Banter forum is now open.

I plan to have the forums up during Defcon, including the contests/event space.

Defcon Blog Rules are now posted. They may change in the future, but right now they are the least restrictive space on the Defcon Forums.

A quick summary of the rules for blogs?:
              Don't post commercial spam
Don't break laws or encourage others to break laws.

Follow the link for the details.

You are responsible for your content.

If you want to advertise your blog in your usual forum "sig", you can do that, but remember to keep your sig short. A sig of 3 or 4 lines maybe 5 (where lines are horizontal rows populated with text or horizontal bars each count toward the total count) is close to the max. These 3 or 4 and maybe 5 lines of total sig space includes all sig content.

The limits become a serious issue when people's average posts are shorter than their sig. If you don't do something to cause us to examine your content in more detail for other violations, we'll probably not notice or care. :-)

Rides and room-sharing, and its open access for users to post to it even as lurkers has once again been found by spammers.

I'll be closing this again (leaving posts and threads visible) in 7 days or less.

After 7 days, I'll close all threads in rides and room sharing, and then closing post-access to that forum.

Also, most of you should have recovered from any drunken stupor created by your time spent at Defcon. The Drunken Banter will be closing around the same time as rides and room sharing.

The tricky part is done. Now starting the DB-specific items, which take a long time.

Forums will be back by 11:00pm.

                      Also:
Drunken banter: closed. Will come back next year. Only active thread in there moved to Community Talk if people want to keep using it. Should be moved back when done.

Rides and Room Sharing closed. Will come back in about9 to 10 months.

Pre Defon 16 forum closed. Left in place. Will be moved to archive later.
(If a pre-defcon 16 thread should be migrated up to defcon 16 and beyond, let me know.)

Expect pics.defcon.org to be unavailable a few minutes at a time over this 3 day weekend.

If you get an error page about service being unavailable, just wait a minute ot two and reload it.

Maintenance tonight around 10:30pm. Forums should be back about 1 hour later, if all goes well.

(No. This has nothing to do with the user interface , mouse hover- thing reported by Deviant Ollam. I talked with Neil about it, and he is going to try to make time to look into that.)

Sad. 42 user accounts on the defcon forums had a username and password which were the same. If you had an account like this, check the email address you used to register your defcon forum account with, as a new password has been sent to it. Please use stronger passwords, so your account is not used by spammers, or used for reasons other than the ones you may have intended.

If you see any problems as a result of this maintenance, please post a reply somewhere in this thread.

                              Thanks!

                                https://forum.defcon.org/project.php?projectid=3

Project section for contests/event at Defcon has been enabled, and it appears to work.

                                Please report problems with it.

It is intended to be used by leaders/organizer, and regular users to make suggestions, comment on progress, and organize contests/events at Defcon in public.

Access controls for editing status will need to be changed depending on use. Please make requests on they way you want to see them work with access controls here.

                                Thanks

This will move forward with each new contest/event for each new year.
