  • Re: PUBLIC-NOTICES: Forum Changes/Fixes. Any Questions?

As requested at the forum meet, the feature to display one more layer of nested forum listings is now enabled.

Please let me know if you see that it is not.

    Good luck!

Problem found with the DB when a user attempted to edit a post.

Forums were taken offline for about 25 minutes to investigate.

Services are restored and functional again.

Please let us know if you see strange error pages, or reported DB problems.

Email validation that is sent to new user looking to register with a new account has been modified:

              * references to http instead of https have been removed or replaced.
              * A notice on stopping email validation notices is also near the top of the email validation notice, in case someone tries to use someone else's email address to register for an account and pseudo-back-scatter-spam them.
              * A notice to email defconforums@gmail.com if mail is received for account validation when it was not requested has been added.
              * A notice that the user needs to have cookies enabled in their browser for defcon.org, forum.defcon.org and pics.defcon.org if they want to stay logged in and post content.

Then, each of these will rotate in and out of service over the following 2 more hours.

Stage 1 of maintenance is completed.

Stage 2-4 will mean down-time for testforums and forums and pics, individually, one-at-a-time over the next 2 hours.

Stage 3 (forums) done. Just running basic checks before turning on to make them publicly available.

                        Edit works.
                        Project works.
                        Blog works.
                        Reply blog works.

Please let us know if you see something broken or different since before the maintenance cycle. If you can't post, then an email to defconforums@gmail.com would be the next place to report the problem.

                          Thanks!

(Pics is next. Should take about 15 minutes.)

I am finished with pics now too.

No more maintenance tonight, unless something breaks.

                          Thanks!

Defcon ended 2 weeks ago, Rides and room sharing hasn't had activity.
Rides and room Sharing closed and nested under Defcon 17 Contests/Events until Defcon 18 Events forum is created, then it will be moved there.

Then, just like this year, about 1 to 2 months before Defcon, it will be opened again and placed at the top level of the forums.

Near the end of this month, Pre Defcon 17 and Defcon 17 planning forum will be closed, with "current" threads copied or moved to Defcon 17 - post Defcon discussion.

Looks like either A: Comcast has decided to block inbound port 80 requests on my business bandwidth, or B: the modem is bad.. working on it now.

Looks like it was sketchy hardware, swapped in a new router and we'll see what happens!

One of our members has reported seeing intermittent connectivity issues when loading pages on the forum. Sometimes the page will not load, and an error will be produced by the client showing a connection timeout or failure to load content, or only incomplete content loads.

Are you seeing this behavior? How often? Does it look like what is described?

                                Thanks for the reports.
