Re: How do you deal with spam?
I deal with it in a number of ways as I have yet to find one perfect solution. I do strict header and body checks, run it through RBLs, enforce RFC compliance, and only then does it go through Spam Assassin. That seems to take care of 90% of the problem. For my users that pull their mail off the server, their local anti-spam stuff gets the rest.

Re: How do you deal with spam?
I have this C4I.org proprietary company comprised of members of the disbanded Canadian Airborne Regiment, and elements of the Special Boat Service. Lets just say we have developed a solution that effectively deals with not only the networks that send out spam, but the spammers themselves...

Layers of crap reduction..
I ended up going with the layered approach, and it works OK. I am sure there is a better approach, so if I left anything out, please mention it.
- First the router blocks 1918 addresses and all the BOGON addresses.
- Then it hits the black hole lists (Yes, there are two)
- Then the access list for sendmail lets mail in only for email accounts that actually exist.
- Then the mail server has some rules, like if the addresses doesn't reverse, etc. it gets dropped.
- Then the sidfilter checks SPF and Sender ID records (Don't forget to add SPF records for your domains!)
- Then (The only commercial piece here) the cloudmark spam filter kicks in
- Then the A/V scanner picks off any obvious dumb stuff
- Finally the mail gets delievered!
But wait, there is more...
Then Eudora Junk filtering picks off a few more. In the end a big vortex of crap gets reduces to a small stinking trickle.PGP Key: https://defcon.org/html/links/dtangent.htmlComment

Re: How do you deal with spam?
Gmail has a great spam filter. I think I've gotten one spam e-mail in my inbox in close to 3 years of using it.
I do, however, go into the spam folder and read it when I need a laugh. One Nation Under Surveillance

Re: How do you deal with spam?
I have one e-mail that's dedicated to spam
Other than that, I can tell it's spam by the header."They wrote in the old days that it is sweet and fitting to die for one's country. But in modern war there is nothing sweet or fitting in your dying. You will die like a dog for no good reason."

Re: How do you deal with spam?
My ISP (using spamassassin) blocks 90% of spam before it gets to my inbox.
I do a bit more with some custom procmail stuff before it hits my mutt anti-spam plugin.. oh wait, i don't have one.
Poetry spam anyone?
I do seem to get some very intresting spam that I almost don't mind... its like strange seemingly pointless words, sometimes poetic. (then there's some HTML in an attachment with a small picture of something spamlike)
