The concept of loop detection, and whatever his algorithm was for enumerating grammars.

Do you mean Chomsky's heirarchy?

Unrestriced grammars (regular languages)
context-sensitive grammars
context-free grammars
general languages

That is giving me painful flashbacks of my compilers classes.
