Shipping Address??

So, I'm flying in so I will need to ship my gun.

Do you have a shipping address? Are we shipping it to your home, the hotel, or what? I think I will try FedEx, so do you know if they have restrictions on airsoft guns?

who are you talking to? Anyways, guns can be checked in with luggage. Call your local airport for details.

check the gun as luggage when you fly. it has to be locked (most airlines require it it be in a hard-sided case, but this isn't federal law) and declared. you may transport up to 11 lbs of ammo with you, also in checked baggage. some airlines expressly prohibit it from being in the same luggage as the gun, others allow this. check with them.

during check-in, when you declare the weapon, they will want to inspect it to see that it's not loaded. (this often happens in a little out of the way place so no sheeple get freaked) once that's done, you close and lock the case. some check in agents will try to affix a tag to your case identifying it as containing a firearm. do not let them do this. it is not only stupid (you know how little baggage throwers make?) but it's also against federal law.

as for the hotel, the Riv expressly told me that firearms are allowed and that you don't have to declare them or anything else. however, they are your responsibility to keep secure. the rooms have safes which will hold a handgun relatively well... but not a long gun. (that's the main reason my ruger and mossberg are likely not coming with me to con)

ya, if its an airsoft gun, you dont have to deal with the firearms stuff. Some airlines have restrictions on replica guns in luggage. Either way, check it and you're good. If you do decide to mail it, dont worry about what method you use. Real guns need to be shipped via ground, airsoft guns can go via any method since the ATF doesnt consider them firearms.

I've never had any problem transporting firearms as long as they were properly declared.

It is amusing to see the looks of other passengers and airline employees when you pull a firearm out of a case. I've actually had them ask me to do it at the main counter every time (as opposed to an "out of the way place" like deviant's experiences).

Of course, more than one airline employee has asked me if empty magazines were "ammo" or "bullets".

Mostly I get asked 'Is the firearm unloaded and in a locked, hardsided, case?' and I tell them 'Yes, I do this regularly' and thats about it. I have only had one person ask me to open the case and show them the firearm to prove it was unloaded. Most counter people wouldnt know what to do to verify either way.

Funny story about that. Buddy of mine (the one that brought the NFA goodies to the shoot a few years back) was flying out to an LE demo and the counter girl was insistant on seeing the firearms and making sure they're unloaded. So he opens the case containing the M249 and she just gawks at it. He tells her 'want me to show you how to check?'. That pretty much ended that.

Although Uncle Ira takes the cake for last year. He walks up to the counter with his luggage. Says he has to declare a firearm. He then pulls his carry piece out of his holster, drops the mag, pops the live round out the chamber, and tosses the whole thing in his suitcase at the checkin counter. Gal was speechless.
