i don't know if this is real or not... but it looks amusing. i do not have a GX520 at any of my client sites or else i'd try it.
"I'll admit I had an OiNK account and frequented it quite often… What made OiNK a great place was that it was like the world's greatest record store… iTunes kind of feels like Sam Goody to me. I don't feel cool when I go there. I'm tired of seeing John Mayer's face pop up. I feel like I'm being hustled when I visit there, and I don't think their product is that great. DRM, low bit rate, etc... OiNK it existed because it filled a void of what people want."

Heh, we used to DoS machines in the test lab at a company I worked for a few years ago with Yaesu FT-50s. There were a few that were susceptible to locking up when subjected to high RF levels (bear in mind that the Yaesu was pushing five watts vs. the probably 600-800mW of the cellphone) at or on a harmonic of their processor clock; once we actually managed to blow a monitor to the point where it would turn on but never sync. I'm willing to bet this is fairly similar in nature.

Well I have to agree with Deviant about knowing if this is legit or not. I can however verify that it does not work with the GX620. Had to try it as soon as I seen it. I think we may have a couple people with 520's but I'll have to find them.

Edit: I meant to add that I was using a Samsung A-950.

One thing to bear in mind here: this may be carrier-dependent. As the different carriers operate in different bands, only certain carriers' phones may run in the right band to DoS whatever component is susceptible to interference. I can't really tell what carrier is being used in the demo but I think the phone is a Nokia, which really doesn't help much - since Nokias are very common phones, multiple carriers are likely to offer their own versions of that particular model. It'd also be interesting to know the processor and bus speeds of the machine being DoSed; given that this seems to happen within proximity to the CD-ROM drive I'm guessing that there's some subcomponent on the motherboard (IDE controller, perhaps?) that's locking up, causing the BIOS to freak out and kick in ACPI for whatever reason.
