    Heya Guys

I just got to vegas last night and am stoked about going to the con this year. I brought my friend with me this year and was really looking forward to partying with him in Vegas. Where we are from, they have what is called a BYID card which is for people who dont have a drivers licence but need ID for the bars, its basically an age of majority card. Its issued by the Liquor Control Board of Ontario and in Canada, and at customs, considered to be government issue ID. Tonight was brutal, we tried 4 seperate times with 4 seperate bars to go in, and each bouncer said "No Dice". The shitty thing is he is well over age of majority and its killing the trip :( . If anyone has any ideas on how to possibly get these bouncers to realize it is acceptable ID or any other ideas, i would love to hear them, cuz at this point, its getting a bit frustrating.

    Cheers, See You all Tomorrow

My only idea for you man...

Go to your local provinces website or the website of the issuing authority of the identification card that your friend has, and print it out, especially if you can find proof there that this is your local government ID.

If hes of age and has government issued ID, regardless of what country issued it, if they do not serve him or let him in he could potentially call the police/local authority and claim discrimination. I dont think this is the best method but if all else fails, and hes really of age, theres nothing to lose.

Be glad your driving liscense isn't printed on some flimsy cardboard with a typewriter with no lamination on it.
Reckon I'll get in anywhere in the US?

            Re: Pre Defcon Hassle

Well, the sunday night we went to Kahunavill in TI and the bouncer there said " i dont know if i can take this ID, but ... I have a book that will tell me" he pulled out this international ID book and BAM there it was. So the ID is good, and the other meathead bouncers are as i suspected, uninformed. I guess its too much to assume that a town so dependant on the income generated by vacationers, would have their bouncers up to date on what proper ID looks like.

Ah well, passports for all next year. Thanks to 9/11 and the U.S. govt.

            Cheers.

(To the guy who posted above about the drivers licence, I have my ontario drivers licence, my friend however does not drive, and only has the LCBO, BYID card.)

              How do you figure that?

Are you saying bouncers should memorize the front/back details of the IDs and Driver's Licenses from ALL 50 states and more than 100 countries?

The book of IDs has been around for ages and has nothing to do with 9/11, War on Terror or anything else.

I think he was saying canadians will need passports to come to the USA next year,
due to the fallout from 9/11.

                    Re: Pre Defcon Hassle

Most states' liquor controls laws officially accept only two IDs: Their own state issued IDs (Driver's License or Non-Driver Photo ID) and a US Passport. ALL other IDs are accepted only at the discretion and risk of the bouncer/club management. If the get it wrong, then their license and/or job is on the line. Those ID books help them make informed desicions but the information contained in said books is not binding under any liquor law that I'm aware of.

Most clubs would rather turn away the odd customer with an unknown ID, rather than lose their license over something bogus. It's all a matter of risk mitigation; something that should be understood by this community.
