    Re: pics.defcon.org is now live!

Just making some changes on pics.defcon.org, you might see new / different behavior.

Looks like video download is now working, and more problems around uploads have been fixed. I am making changes to get ready for a software update to pics, and want to kill off all past issues.

If you notice anything strange please post here!

      Re: pics.defcon.org is now live!

Video images larger than somewhere around 3 to 5 MB will fail to upload (still.) This is a product failure. I tried a few years back to make a WebDAV replacement, but the work to support all the variations of WebDAV clients out there (Windows, Mac OS X, and LInux) is more work than I have time to complete, and I don't have a Mac OS X box here to use for debugging problems.

The next option was proposed by DT, to make a new submission form that is simple. Really simple. Select a video file to upload and then upload. Clunky. Not good if you have many videos, but we can expand it later.

Issues we had last week which might be layer7 firewall filters on MIME types based on file extension mapping meant that you could only upload videos with extension of .avi not mpeg, mpg, .mov or .qt. You could rename your video to have a .avi extension and lie, and then it would upload your video and make it available for download/play. This is more likely a failure with the software. Even though the software allows the admin to specify allowed video files by extension, when other video types by extension are included, they are not displayed as video to download on the web pages. (lame.)

I need time to work on a simple form to upload videos so we can bypass this dumb 3-5 MB limit on files being uploaded.

I'm having some strangeness on uploads now.. pictures _sometimes_ work. They upload, then a couple fast redirects happen, then nothing.. trying to replicate it with different browsers to see where the problem is. Maybe it is all my fire fox plugins.

Cot got pics updated to the latest version!
